2008 Army Lacrosse: Year In Review

WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Army lacrosse team enjoyed another successful season in 2008. Numerous team and individual achievements and awards highlighted the year's accomplishments:
- Army senior captain Adam Fullerton was named a Third-Team All-America by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) and garnered Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Year honors for the second-straight season.
- Five Black Knights received Patriot League All-Conference Honors. Senior goalie Adam Fullerton, senior defenseman Jay Larson and junior midfielder Kevin LoRusso were named to the first team, while senior defenseman Craig Massie and junior attackman Jason Peyer took home second-team honors. It was the second-straight first-team honor for Fullerton, while Larson and Massie each lauded second-team honors a year ago.
- Head coach Joe Alberici was named the Patriot League Coach of the Year.
- Ranked as high as No. 8 nationally during the season, Army finished 19th in the final USILA national poll.
- Army finished sixth in the nation and led the Patriot League in scoring defense with a 7.13 goals against average. The Black Knights also led the conference with 9.4 goals per game.
- Army finished with a 9-6 record, including a 5-1 Patriot League record to win their first regular season conference title since 2003. The Black Knights were also undefeated at home during the regular season with a 5-0 mark.
- Army handed sixth-ranked Navy a 9-6 loss in Michie Stadium on Apr. 12 before a crowd of 4,800 people. It was the Black Knights’ first win in 11 years and 13 tries over the Midshipmen.
- Senior goalkeeper Adam Fullerton was a finalist for both the 2008 Tewaaraton Trophy and the Lt. Raymond J. Enners Awards recognizing the national player of the year.
- Senior defenseman Craig Massie was named a member of the USILA Scholar All-America Team. One of only 10 finalists for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award, he finished with first-team recognition on the All-Senior All-America squad.
- Senior attackman Justin Bokmeyer and senior defenseman Jay Larson played in the North-South Senior All-Star Game at Harvard Stadium. Bokmeyer was credited with two goals, while Larson was solid on defense for the North team.
- Junior defenseman Scott Rosenshein was named the Patriot League Men’s Lacrosse Scholar Athlete of the Year. A Chemical Engineering major, he led the Black Knights with a 3.89 grade point average and garnered his sixth-straight Dean’s List achievement.
- Senior goalkeeper Adam Fullerton was the first goalkeeper selected and the 28th-overall pick in the 2008 Major League Lacrosse (MLL) Collegiate Draft. The Rochester Rattlers took him with the eighth selection of the third round to become only the fourth Black Knight ever selected to play in the MLL draft.
- Army has totaled 699 victories in the 91-year history of the program. Only four other programs can boast more all-time wins than the Black Knights.
- Army played six teams that qualified for the NCAA Tournament, compiling a 3-3 record versus those teams including victories over Colgate, Hofstra and quarterfinalist Navy. The Black Knights only fell one goal short of eventual National Champion Syracuse (8-7) as well as Cornell (9-8) while holding the high-powered Duke offense six goals under its season average in a four-goal loss (10-6) in Hempstead, N.Y.
- Senior Justin Bokmeyer, junior attackman Jason Peyer and freshman midfielder Rob McCallion tied for the team lead with 33 points apiece. Junior attackman Brooks Korvin and sophomore attackman Jeremy Boltus each tallied 27 points to round out the top-five scorers.
- Senior goalkeeper Adam Fullerton compiled 620 career saves to break a 24-year old Academy record. Four-time All-American George Slabowski held the previous record of 602.
- Freshman midfielder Rob McCallion scored at least one point in every single game this season en route to tying for the team scoring lead. He led Army with 18 assists to go along with 15 goals for 33 points.
- A conference-high 15 Black Knights were selected to respective Patriot League weekly honors throughout the season, led by senior Adam Fullerton’s five Goalkeeper of the Week nods.
- Freshman midfielder Rob McCallion was listed ninth, while classmate Jeremy Boltus was ranked 23rd on Inside Lacrosse’s final list of the top freshman in the country of 2008.
- Top-seeded Army served as host for the Patriot League Tournament in Michie Stadium.
- A total of 22 Army players registered at least one point including 20 Black Knights who scored a goal.
- The Black Knights registered the eighth-best man-up offensive unit in the nation, converting 18 of 41 (.439) opportunities.
- Army ended up 13th in the country with a 2.27 scoring margin.
- The Black Knights opened the 2008 season on Feb. 16 with a 16-3 victory over first-time rival VMI. It marked the earliest season-opener in the 91 seasons of Army lacrosse.
- In the victory over VMI, freshman midfielder Rob McCallion became the first Black Knight to score a hat trick in his first collegiate game since 1990.
- A year after handing Syracuse its first-ever home loss in the month of February, the Black Knights came up one goal short of the eventual national champions in an 8-7 loss at the Carrier Dome in February.
- Army improved to 15-0 all time against Air Force with a 12-4 victory in Michie Stadium on March 1.
- Army defeated Rutgers, 12-11, in the Ford Patriot Cup played at Texas Stadium on Mar. 15.
- Junior attackman Jason Peyer scored with only two seconds left in the game to propel Army to an 8-7 upset of 12th-ranked Hofstra in Hempstead, N.Y. on Mar. 25.
- Senior goalkeeper Adam Fullerton made a career-best 24 saves in Army’s 10-6 loss to top-ranked Duke on Apr. 19.
- Fourteen seniors played in their final seasons with the Black Knights, including captains Justin Bokmeyer and Adam Fullerton.
