Gilad Doron joined the coaching staff in August 2023.Â
Doron comes to the banks of the Hudson after spending seven seasons as the head coach at Dartmouth College. He was the third coach in the history of the program. Â
In the 2022 season, Doron led the Big Green to an 8-6 record, finishing fourth in the Ivy Conference and appearing in the Ivy League Tournament. Dartmouth was 25th in the nation in aces per set with 1.80.Â
The Big Green won the 2022 Dartmouth Invitational, going 4-0 through the weekend, earning wins against Siena, Merrimack, Lehigh, and Hartford. In the 2021 season, Dartmouth started with a 6-0 nonconference record, claiming a pair of tournament titles, including the Dartmouth Invitational with the Big Green won for the first time since 2015. Â
Doron was also the Head Coach of the University of San Francisco from 2007-2016. While at San Francisco, Doron was the winningest coach in program history and in the West Coast Conference. Â
At the conclusion of the 2015 season, the Dons finished the season with an overall record of 131-130. While at the helm, USF compiled a program-best 60 wins opposite West Coast Conference opponents. He led the Dons to their second-ever NCAA tournament appearance and national ranking since 2008.Â
In 2008, Doron led USF to one of its most successful seasons in the program’s history. The team finished the season with a 22-8 record. USF appeared in its second NCAA Tournament appearance. The Dons won their first seven WCC matches and climbed the national rankings for four weeks, where they reached 22nd in the AVCA Poll in 2008. Â
Doron spent three seasons as the head coach at Villanova from 2004-07. In the 2005 season, the Wildcats finished with a 21-11 overall record, showing a 12-game improvement from the 2004-05 season, this was the second-best turnaround in Big East history.Â
Doron also had a stint as an Assistant Coach at Temple University from 1996-1999, working under Head Coach Bob Bertucci. At Temple, Doron helped Temple to a 101-28 (.783) record and a 70-11 (.864) Atlantic 10 Conference record. Doron recruited and coached Army Head Coach Alma Kovaci Lee, where the Owls won three consecutive Atlantic 10 Titles and NCAA Tournament berths.
Prior to his time at Villanova, Doron founded the Philidelphia Volleyball Academy in 2003, and was the Technical Director and Coach until 2007, a nationally ranked club comprised of five teams and players between the ages of 14-18. He also spent three years as the head goals coach at Synergy Volleyball Club in Philadelphia, where he worked with U-18 players on a nationally ranked club quad that qualified for the national championships in 2001 and ‘02. His 2002 team reached as high as No. 12 in the national polls and compiled a 100-27 record.Â
Gilad Doron began his coaching career in his native Israel as the head men’s volleyball coach for the Mate Asher Professional Club. Doron mentored players on the national team from Israel, the Czech Republic, Romania, and Croatia. He led his teams to the 1994 Israeli Championship and the finals of the 1995 Israel Cup.Â
Doron competed for the Israeli National Team for ten years and was a part of the team that placed fourth in the World University Games in Japan in 1995. He played with Mate Asher for 12 seasons. He helped lead the team to four Israeli League Titles and a couple of Israeli Cup Championships. Â
Doron graduated Summa Cum Laude from Temple University in 2000 with a degree in Finance and Risk Management Insurance. Doron was also a member of the Israeli De from The Western Galilee College in Yad-Natan, Israel where he graduated with an Associate Degree in Industrial Management Engineering and Marketing in 1995.
