Coach Michael Ashton was born in San Jose, CA but grew up in Vancouver, WA. Coach Mike began participating in Track and Field in elementary school. Participating in any event he could, but found his love for pole vaulting his freshman year of high school and knew that was going to be his primary event going forward. Was offered a walk-on spot at Utah Valley University and decided that is where he needed to be. While at UVU, Coach Mike competed in the pole vault, heptathlon and decathlon. He won 3 individual conference championships (2 PV and 1 HJ) and set the UVU pole vault outdoor record his senior year.
Once he graduated UVU with his bachelor's degree in public relations, he began coaching track and field at the high school level with Judge Memorial Catholic HS and then Cyprus HS. In 2021, Coach Mike accepted a coaching position at his alma mater (UVU) as the Pole Vault, High Jump and Multis Coach.
In 2023 Coach Mike was offered and accepted his current position as an assistant coach over pole vault and multis with the Army West Point Track and Field team.
