Captain Chris Wallgren enters his second year as an assistant coach with the Army West Point men’s rugby program.
Wallgren played rugby for four years at the United States Military Academy from 2003-07 and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Military Art & Science. He has served in the Army for eight years and currently serves as an instructor in the Department of Military Instruction.
Commissioned as an Infantry Officer, his former assignments include Platoon Leader with 2nd Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment at Fort Drum, N.Y., and Platoon Leader and Company Executive Officer in 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment at Fort Benning, Ga.
Captain Wallgren commanded Charger Company, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Infantry Regiment (Stryker) at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash. He deployed to Afghanistan four times in support of Operation Enduring Freedom as part of a Brigade Combat Team and Special Operations Task Force.
Captain Wallgren’s military decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Achievement Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Valorous Unit Citation, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, NATO Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, Parachutist Badge and Ranger Tab.
