Jesse Flannery joined the Army men’s basketball staff in August 2022.
Flannery comes to West Point after a season-long stint at Amherst College, where he served as an assistant coach with recruiting coordinator duties. Working as the program’s defensive coordinator, Flannery helped the Mammoths to a 15-9 record which saw the team ranked in the top ten in Division II basketball in points allowed per game (61) and defensive field-goal percentage (37.1%). In the recruiting realm, Flannery contributed to the recruitment of a pair of top-40 ranked recruits in Massachusetts.
Prior to his stint at Amherst, Flannery spent two seasons as a graduate assistant at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA. With the Rams, Flannery monitored academics and facilitated job opportunities for men’s basketball student-athletes, along with maintaining analytics database on the team’s offensive performance. VCU were 2019 A-10 regular season champions on the way to a Division I NCAA Tournament berth. Flannery coached 2021 NBA First Round Draft pick, Nah’Shon Hyland along with multiple players who would go on to play professionally in Europe and South America.
Prior to coaching, Flannery enjoyed a successful playing career at John Hopkins University in Baltimore. Twice making the Division III NCAA Tournament, the Blue Jays made a run to the Sweet 16 in 2015 before posting a 24-win season in Flannery’s senior season, leading the team to another NCAA Tournament win as a team captain.
Flannery graduated from John Hopkins in 2018 with degrees in both economics and political science. He would go on to earn his master’s degree in sport leadership from VCU in 2020.
