Doug Novak is in his first season as an assistant coach with the Army Men’s Basketball program.
Novak most recently served as the Interim Head Women’s coach at Mississippi State in the 2021-22 season leading them to a 15-14 overall record.
Prior to his lone season with the Mississippi State Women’s program, Novak served as the Head Men’s Coach at Bethel University from 2013-21. There is composited a 131-68 record in eight seasons. He left with the highest winning percentage (.658) of any Bethel basketball coach in program history. In 2017 he led the Royals to a share of the program's first ever MIAC regular season championship, second-ever MIAC Playoff Championship and second-ever NCAA Tournament appearance. Novak’s group rattled off six consecutive MIAC Playoff appearances, advancing to the semifinals three times (2014, 2016, 2018) and the championship game three times (2015, 2017, 2018) while hosting the championship game in both 2017 & 2018.
Before his coach success at Bethel, Novak saw coaching stops at Tulane University (Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach, 2010-13), The Citadel (Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach, 2006-10), Anderson University (Head Men’s Basketball Coach, 1999-2006), Francis Marion University (Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach, 1998-99), Iowa Western Community College (Head Men’s Basketball Coach/Athletic Director, 1995-98) and Roane State Community College (Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach, 1992-95).
While at Anderson University, he won Anderson’s first Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference (CVAC) Championship in program history.
Novak and his wife, Tonya have been married for 29 years and have three daughters Mackenzie, Sarah and Grace. He is originally from Brandon, SD.
