Capt. Jeremy Hence joined the Army West Point men’s basketball staff as Director of Basketball Operations for the 2015-16 season.
Hence is a 2011 graduate of the United States Military Academy and was a four-year letterwinner for the men’s basketball team. He appeared in 95 games, including 37 starts in the frontcourt for Army. Originally from Fredericksburg, Va., As a senior Hence served as team captain while leading the Black Knights in scoring with 15.7 points per game and 16.9 points per game in conference play.He was second on the squad in rebounding with 5.3 per game, second in steals (24) and second in blocked shots (11) in 2010-11. Hence was recipient of the Colonel John S. Roosma awarded to the team's Most Valuable Player. Hence played his final two seasons at West Point under head coach Zach Spiker.
Following graduation as a Systems Management major, Hence served as an Athletic Intern and Assistant Coach at USMAPS under Justin Jennings. He was then stationed at Joint Base Lewis McChord (JBLM), Washington, from July 2012 - May 2015 where he served a Platoon Leader and Executive Office in the 1st Battalion 94th Field Artillery Regiment, 17th Field Artillery Brigade.
While stationed at JBLM, hence completed a nine-month deployment to the Middle East, CENTCOM AOR.
Following his deployment in 2014, Hence competed for the All-Army Basketball team and earned a silver medal at the All-Armed Forces Tournament in Camp Pendleton, Calif. Hence was selected to the All-Armed Forces tournament team and earned an invitation to play on the All-Armed Forces team in the CISM Military World Games in Korea.
Prior to his return to West Point, Hence completed the Field Artillery Captains Career Course in Fort Sill, Okla.
Hence has a son, Carter Jeremiah Hence, and resides in nearby Highland Falls, N.Y.
