Matt Hachmann is in his first season on the Banks of the Hudson as the outside linebackers coach after joining the Army West Point football staff in February 2019.

Hachmann brings a wealth of knowledge to West Point, including a two-year stint at Stony Brook as the linebackers coach and eight years at Towson as the defensive coordinator.

Hachmann comes to the Banks of the Hudson after leading Stony Brook to a 7-5 record in 2018. During the season, the Seawolves defeated ranked FCS opponents Villanova, Rhode Island, and Delaware.

In 2017 Hachmann helped guide the Seawolves to a 10-3 season, to include a 7-1 record in the CAA Football standings and a return trip to the FCS NCAA Division I Football Championships. Stony Brook was ranked in both polls for the final five weeks of the season, and peaked at a program-best No. 10 for back-to-back weeks in the STATS poll before garnering 11th in both final polls.

The Seawolves, who finished second in the league in 2017 with just one loss, received an at-large bid for the program's third overall appearance and the first since 2012. Stony Brook placed 11 on the All-CAA Football teams, including four first team offensive players and four second team honorees.

Prior to that, the Queens, N.Y., native spent eight seasons at fellow CAA football member Towson as the defensive coordinator and inside linebackers coach. Along the way, Hachmann helped the Tigers to a pair of CAA championships in 2011 and 2012 and a trip to the FCS National Championship game in 2013.

Hachmann also spent nine seasons at Lafayette College, the final eight coaching the linebackers. During his time with the Leopards, he spent four seasons as the special teams coordinator and two seasons as the recruiting coordinator.

He helped build the Leopards into one of the top teams in the Patriot League. From 2004-2006, the Leopards won three consecutive Patriot League championships. Lafayette posted back-to-back 8-4 seasons in 2004 and 2005, falling in the first round of the playoffs each year.

Hachmann joined the coaching profession in 1994 when he was a recruiting assistant at Northwestern University. After one season he moved on to Northern Illinois where he served as a graduate assistant offensive line coach for two seasons.

He would later spend two seasons working with the offensive line at Oklahoma before becoming the Director of Football Operations at Maryland in 1999.

Hachmann received his bachelor's degree in marketing management from St. Thomas (Minn.) in 1993. He was a three-year letterwinner for the Tommies, helping the team to the 1990 NCAA Division III quarterfinals. He was also a member of the baseball team, earning most improved honors as a senior.
