MAJ ZacharyĀ I.Ā Peterson, former Army West Point football centerĀ (2007-2010),Ā joined the footballĀ supportĀ staff in July 2022Ā as the admissions support officer.Ā He isĀ responsible for the daily interaction with recruited athletes, high school counselors, administrators, USMAPS officials and USMA representatives regarding candidate academic eligibility, medical qualification, congressional nomination procedures, physical fitness requirements and future potential service in the United States Army.Ā He also serves as theĀ advance contactĀ for away gamesĀ to set conditionsĀ prior to the teamās arrival.
After graduating from the United States Military Academy inĀ May ofĀ 2011 and prior to attending the Field Artillery Basic Officer Leader CourseĀ (BOLC), PetersonĀ was selected as an Athletic Intern atĀ USMAPS, coaching the offensive lineĀ duringĀ the 2011 season.
FollowingĀ his tenure asĀ an Intern at USMAPSĀ andĀ theĀ completion ofĀ FAĀ BOLC, he joined the 4th Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, GA where he served as a Company Fire Support Officer with 3-15 IN, deploying to Wardak Province, Afghanistan in support of OperationĀ EnduringĀ FreedomĀ XIII-XIV. Upon his return from Afghanistan,Ā he thenĀ served as a Firing Battery Platoon Leader (M119A2) with Bravo Battery, 1-76 FA. Ā In his final year at Fort Stewart, Peterson was selectedĀ as the Aide-de-Camp to the Deputy Commanding General-Support 3rd Infantry Division, deploying to Bagram, Afghanistan in support of OFS.

PetersonĀ then transitionedĀ to the Field Artillery Captains Career CourseĀ with a follow-on assignmentĀ to 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st ABN DIV (AASLT), Fort Campbell, KY as the 3-187 IN Fire Support Officer, deploying to Helmand and Kandahar Provinces, Afghanistan in support of OFS. He would return from this deploymentĀ and be re-assigned as theĀ 101st DIVARTYĀ Force Field Artillery HeadquartersĀ Assistant Operations Officer,Ā deployingĀ toĀ Bagram,Ā Afghanistan in support ofĀ OFS.

Following his fourth deployment to Afghanistan, Peterson commanded A/3-320 FA, 3BCT, 101st ABN DIV (AASLT)Ā and thenĀ Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 101st Division Sustainment Brigade. During his second command with HHC/101st DSB, he deployedĀ to the Middle East in support of Operation Spartan Shield.
PetersonāsĀ keyĀ military awards and qualifications include:Ā the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medals,Ā Joint ServiceĀ Commendation Medal,Ā Army Commendation Medals, Joint Service AchievementĀ Medal,Ā Space Enabler,Ā CombatĀ ActionĀ Badge, Pathfinder, Airborne,Ā andĀ Air AssaultĀ Badges. He also has obtained numerousĀ Joint Fires Additional Skill Identifiers.

During his time as a player, Peterson was a two-year starter at the center position,Ā including being a part ofĀ theĀ 2010-ArmedĀ Forces Bowl Championship team.Ā He was selectedĀ toĀ Phil SteeleāsĀ All-Independent teamsĀ during his junior and senior seasons.Ā DuringĀ both ofĀ those seasons,Ā heĀ received theĀ āRanger Award,āĀ an internalĀ team-award givenĀ for outstanding effort.

Peterson has aĀ Bachelor of Science degree inĀ LeadershipĀ fromĀ the United States Military Academy, a Master of Arts degreeĀ in Global and International Studies (Interagency Studies Track)Ā fromĀ theĀ UniversityĀ of Kansas,Ā and a Masters of Operational StudiesĀ degreeĀ from theĀ U.S. ArmyĀ Command and General Staff College.
MAJ PetersonĀ is aĀ fourth-generationĀ artillery officer, andĀ heĀ resides on West PointĀ with his son, Grady.
