Chandler Burks
- Title:
- Running Backs
Burks was hired to Army’s coaching staff in January 2025, joining the staff after spending the previous five seasons at Kennesaw State (2020-2024).
Burks will coach the running backs in 2025.
In 2024, he served as interim head coach for the final three games of the season. He also held the role of co-offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach that year. From 2020 to 2023, he was the quarterbacks coach for the Owls.
Every KSU passing or quarterback rushing record was either set by Burks himself, a teammate of his who benefited from his leadership, or a player under his guidance.
In the 2022 campaign, Burks guided KSU quarterback Xavier Shepherd to being named the ASUN Conference Preseason Offensive Player of the Year and was named a preseason All-American by STATS Perform, Athlon Sports, Lindy's Sports, and Phil Steele.
Burks played quarterback at Kennesaw State from 2015 to 2018, where he was coached by Cody Worley, the current Army offensive coordinator.
Under Worley's mentorship, he emerged as one of the top quarterbacks in the nation, earning back-to-back Big South Offensive Player of the Year and Scholar-Athlete of the Year accolades in 2017 and 2018, the first player in conference history to earn both awards in the same season. He also became the first player in league history to finish with both 1,000 yards rushing and passing during the 2017 campaign. He was named the 2018 FCS National Performer of the Year at the College Football Performance Awards.
As Kennesaw State’s first signee, Burks helped build the foundation of the Kennesaw State program during his five years on campus (2013-18). He finished his career with 2,813 rushing yards and 56 rushing touchdowns. During his three-plus seasons as the signal caller for the Owls, he threw for 3,638 yards and 33 touchdowns, which tops the Kennesaw State record book. As the most decorated player in program history, he played in 42 career contests and had an astounding 31-6 record as the starting quarterback.
A runner-up for the 2018 Walter Payton Award, Burks led all Division I (FCS or FBS) rushers with 29 touchdowns on the ground to tie the Big South single-season record. He led the FCS in scoring (174 points) and points responsible for (18.3 per game) while ranked fourth in the Big South for rushing yards (905), total offense (149.8 yards/game).
Burks was an offensive juggernaut for the Owls, starting in 37 consecutive games at quarterback for the Owls and leading KSU to a 17-2 home record and back-to-back FCS Playoff quarterfinal appearances.
After an illustrious career at Kennesaw State, Burks spent the 2019 season as part of the defensive quality control staff at Wofford College. Burks helped guide the Terriers to a 2019 Southern Conference Championship and a berth in the FCS Playoffs. The Wofford defense led the SoCon in total defense (335.3), first down defense (198), and team passing efficiency defense (121.65), among many other categories.
Burks and his wife, Teddi, were married on June 16, 2023.
