Softball Sees Rubber Match Victory at Bucknell, Consaul Reaches 100 Career Wins
April 27, 2026 | Softball
LEWISBURG, Pa. — Army West Point softball (29-23, 9-6) played a rubber match on Monday, taking on the Bucknell University Bison (9-32-1, 6-9), and ultimately earned an 8-2 win over the Bison at Becker Field.
With the win, the Black Knights take a 2-1 series win over the Bison this season, earning their third Patriot League series win, plus clinched a spot in the Patriot League tournament for the sixth straight season. The win also allowed Army head coach Jen Consaul to reach 100 career wins during her tenure at West Point, making her the fourth coach to do so.
Army West Point put together a complete offensive performance and backed it with steady pitching, pulling away for an 8–2 win over Bucknell.
Caitlyn Newburn and Tayten Moore led the Black Knights' offense with three hits each, with Newburn adding a team-high two RBIs and Moore adding one of her own. Sienna Tepley and Mia Bonsignore added two hits, with Tepley matching Newburn with two RBIs.
Ashton White, Hannah Laub and Makaila Moosbrugger also added one hit each, with White and Laub adding an RBI. With White's RBI, she tied the single-season record for most RBIs in a season, currently logging 45 RBIs this season.
As for pitching, Breanna Izzo earned the start, pitching 6.1 innings and logging six strikeouts, allowing only five hits, two earned runs and one walk. Katelyn Flanders came in as relief and pitched 0.2 innings to close the game, causing two force outs.
How It Happened
Army was quiet in the first inning, going down in order, and Bucknell struck first with a run in the bottom half. However, Breanna Izzo quickly settled in, limiting further damage and keeping the deficit at just 1–0.
Army began to find rhythm in the second with a pair of hits, but left runners on base. Izzo responded in the bottom half with two strikeouts, stranding a runner at third and preventing Bucknell from adding on.
The turning point came in the third inning.
After two quick outs, Taylor Brown worked a walk to spark the rally. Ashton White followed with an RBI double to tie the game, and Caitlyn Newburn delivered an RBI single to give Army the lead.
Moments later, Hannah Laub capped the surge with an RBI double, as Army scored three runs on three straight extra-base and run-producing hits to take a 3–1 advantage.
Izzo was in control in the bottom of the third, retiring Bucknell in order and maintaining momentum.
Army added on in the fourth inning. After a walk and a bunt single, Sienna Tepley drove in a run with a single, and aggressive baserunning on a wild pitch brought home another, extending the lead to 5–1.
The Black Knights continued to apply pressure in the sixth. Tayten Moore's extra-base hit set the table before Tepley knocked in a run, and Newburn added another RBI single to push the lead to 7–1.
Army tacked on one more in the seventh when Moore delivered an RBI single to score a pinch runner, making it 8–1.
In the circle, Izzo delivered a strong outing, working deep into the game while mixing in multiple strikeouts and limiting Bucknell's offense to just one early run through six innings.
Katelyn Flanders then entered late and closed things out efficiently, inducing weak contact and finishing the game despite Bucknell pushing across one run in the final frame.
On Deck
The Black Knights head east to Worcester, Mass., for their final Patriot League series in 2026, taking on the Holy Cross Crusaders at Freshman Field.
Army has won eight of the last matchups against Holy Cross, winning every single series against the Crusaders through head coach Jen Consaul's tenure. Last season, the Black Knights earned a 2-1 win over the Crusaders.
The final series of the season is scheduled to start on Saturday, May 2, with a doubleheader slated for a 12 p.m. ET start. Then the series will conclude on Sunday, May 3, with a single game at 12 p.m. ET. For fans who cannot make it to Worcester, all three games over the weekend will stream live on ESPN+.
