April 01, 2026 | Softball
HACKENSACK, N.J. — Army West Point softball (16-18) headed to the FDU Softball Field for a midweek doubleheader on Wednesday, ultimately sweeping the Fairleigh Dickinson University Knights (7-23) in two five-inning run-rule victories, 12-0 and 11-1.
In game one, the Black Knights delivered a dominant performance in a 12–0 win over FDU, using explosive offense and strong pitching to control the game from start to finish.
Army delivered another commanding performance in game two, overwhelming FDU in an 11–1 victory behind a relentless offense that scored six runs in the first inning and more strong pitching.
To start with Army's pitching, the staff of five, Amanda Eaglin, Katelyn Flanders, Kendall Holloway, Ashlyn Wright and Libby Levendoski, combined to only allow one earned run and three walks while tallying a total of 11 strikeouts throughout the day. Eaglin and Flanders, the two starters, earned wins on the day.
Meanwhile, the Army offense combined for 26 hit through the ten innings of action. Taylor Brown finished with a team-high five hits, with Sienna Tepley adding four hits through six at-bats. By the end of the day, 11 Army batters earned a base hit. Ashton White, Tayten Moore and Hannah Laub each added a team-high three RBIs.
GAME 1
Army wasted no time setting the tone in the first inning. After Sienna Tepley worked a leadoff walk and Taylor Brown followed with a double, the Black Knights capitalized with execution. Ashton White and Caitlyn Newburn each delivered sacrifice flies, bringing home two runs for an early 2–0 lead.
In the circle, Army was equally sharp. Amanda Eaglin set the tone immediately with back-to-back strikeouts in the first inning, and continued to keep FDU off balance, retiring the side in order in both the first and second innings.
The game broke open in the third inning with a massive offensive surge. Army capitalized on timely hitting and defensive miscues to plate seven runs. Highlights included Hannah Laub's RBI double, Mia Bonsignore's RBI walk, and a two-RBI single from Samantha Sims
Aggressive baserunning added to the pressure, as Sims stole second and Bonsignore stole home, while Breanna Coonfare capped the inning with an RBI single, extending the lead to 9–0.
Army stayed aggressive at the plate in the later innings. In the fifth, the Black Knights added three more runs behind a string of hits from the top of the order. Tepley, Brown, and White all recorded RBI singles, pushing the lead to 12–0 and showcasing the lineup's depth and consistency.
Defensively, Army remained in complete control. The pitching staff, including Kendall Holloway who entered in the fifth inning, limited FDU's opportunities, allowing only a handful of baserunners while recording multiple strikeouts and forcing weak contact throughout. A clean double play in the fourth inning highlighted the defense's efficiency.
With contributions throughout the lineup and dominant pitching, Army controlled every phase of the game, rolling to a convincing 12–0 victory over FDU.
GAME 2
Army set the tone immediately with a massive first inning, scoring six runs through 10 at-bats.
The Black Knights loaded the bases with three straight singles from Sienna Tepley, Taylor Brown, and Ashton White, and quickly capitalized. Caitlyn Newburn drove in the first run with an RBI single, followed by a sacrifice fly from Hannah Laub.
Army continued to apply pressure as runs came across on an error, a hit-by-pitch RBI from Micaela Garcia, and another sacrifice fly from Tayten Moore. Aggressive baserunning capped the inning, with Breanna Coonfare stealing home, as Army exploded for a 6–0 lead.
In the circle, Army was just as dominant early. Katelyn Flanders opened with a strikeout and two quick outs in the first, then followed with a clean second inning that included another strikeout, keeping FDU hitless through two.
Army added on in the second inning with more timely hitting. Brown reached on a bunt single and stole second, setting up White's RBI single. Laub followed with another RBI hit, and later in the inning, Moore delivered a two-RBI double down the left field line, extending the lead to 10–0.
FDU showed brief life in the third, stringing together three hits to plate a run, but Army limited the damage with a key strikeout to strand the bases loaded and maintain a comfortable 10–1 advantage.
The Black Knights continued to tack on in the fourth. After a bunt single from Coonfare, Army capitalized on a defensive miscue before Tepley lined an RBI single up the middle, pushing the lead to 11–1.
Defensively, Army remained in control the rest of the way. The pitching staff, taken over by Ashlyn Wright and Libby Levendoski in relief, worked efficiently through traffic in the fourth and fifth innings, recording multiple strikeouts and stranding runners in scoring position to prevent any comeback attempt.
With contributions throughout the lineup, including multi-hit efforts and aggressive baserunning, Army controlled the game from the opening inning and cruised to an emphatic 11–1 win over FDU.
