Baseball to Host Navy for the Baseball Star Series
March 26, 2026 | Baseball
WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army West Point baseball hosts the rival Navy Midshipmen for a three-game series this weekend at Doubleday Field.Â
Â
The three games make up the Baseball Star series, in turn part of the Star Series presented by USAA.Â
Â
Friday's series opener is set for 1:00 p.m., before Saturday's 3:00 p.m. contest and Sunday's 1:05 p.m. weekend finale. All three games will be streamed on ESPN+.
Â
Army is looking to recapture the baseball star after dropping last year's star series two games to one. Before 2025, the Black Knights had won three baseball star series in a row. Army did recover from last year's regular season setback to defeat the Mids two games to one in the Patriot League Semifinal Series later in the season.
Â
Notes and Storylines
Â
• Navy defeated Army in four of last season's five regular season contests between the teams, but the Black Knights prevailed in the postseason.
• Going into May 11 down one game to none in the Patriot League Semifinal Series—and standing at 1-5 overall on the season against its arch-rival—Army won two games on the same day at Max Bishop Stadium in Annapolis to secure the playoff series and clinch a spot in the Patriot League Championship series.
• While Army tied the series with relative ease early the afternoon of May 11, 13-2, the evening rubber matchup evolved into a heart-stopper.
• In the winner-take-all rubber, a high-scoring afternoon morphed into a pitchers' showdown between Army's Trey Ates and Navy's star closer Landon Kruer. The two relievers exchanged zeros on the scoreboard, but the senor from Dallas would ultimately be the pitcher who earned the win for his team, with six scoreless innings including the nightcap's ultimate 10th stanza.
• Thomas Schreck walked with the bases loaded in the top of the extra inning, allowing Michael Delph to cross the plate as the winning run. Navy got the go-ahead run to the plate in the bottom of the inning, but a flyout to Addison Ainsworth proved to be the final page in a storybook ending of a 6-5 Army win.
• Dating back to 2022, Army has won 17 of its 25 meetings vs. Navy.
• The Black Knights have now won 22 of their past 33 games against academy rivals.
• The all-time series between Army and Navy stands tied at 136 wins each. Army is 14-8 all-time vs. Navy in extra innings, and the May 11 win was the program's fifth straight postseason series win over the Mids.
• Army swept Lafayette this past weekend in a three-game series March 21-22.
• In Saturday's doubleheader, the Black Knights combined for 21 runs on 20 hits, while drawing 24 free passes including 19 walks.
• In Game 2 Saturday, Josiah Overbeek tied the program's single-game record by drawing five walks, tying the mark previously set by Zach Price vs. Maryland in 2011.
• Andrew Berg had Army's first complete-game of the season in the seven-inning doubleheader daycap before Kevin Reavey provided a career-high eight frames in the nine-inning nightcap.
• Army was forced to use just six innings of relief pitching over the series, and just three relief pitchers.Â
• Army's 11 walks in Game 2 Saturday were the most dawn in a single game this season, and the most since taking 11 vs. Lehigh on April 14, 2025.
• The Black Knights have won eight in a row over Lafayette dating back to the 2024 regular season finale.
• David Dubrule hit .500 with four RBIs in the series and was named Patriot League Player of the Week on Monday.
• Army recovered from a 2-0 first inning hole on Tuesday to take the lead in the bottom of the first, never looking back in a 9-4 win over Saint Peter's.Â
• William Parker and Overbeek hoisted home runs as Army raced out to a 7-2 lead after the third inning.
• Army sent 10 batters to the plate in the bottom of the first, the seventh time this season nine or more men batted in a frame for Army.
• Starting pitcher Mark Abell made his first career pitching start and recorded a season-high five strikeouts, which also tied a career-high. Five of his six outs recorded were each strikeouts, including each of his first five.
• Despite having just one home outdoor practice under its belt before the first game of the 2026 season, Army has played error-free baseball in 11 of its 22 games to open the year. The Black Knights' fielding percentage of .982 is 25th nationally and tops in the Patriot League.
