Wrestling Celebrates Senior Night with Pair of One-Sided Dual Wins

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army West Point Wrestling recognized 14 senior wrestlers between duals Saturday night, and the Black Knights knocked off both Hofstra and LIU to conclude the 2025-26 home schedule.

After dispatching Hofstra 35-10, Army defeated its second Long Island foe of the evening with a 41-3 victory over LIU.

The Black Knights won 17 of the 20 total bouts Saturday night; four by fall, five by technical fall and 10 in bonus point fashion. Army moves to 4-5 overall and 4-1 in the EIWA.Â
Between duals, Alvarado, Ethan Berginc, Joseph Couch, Farmer, Frable, Franco, Cole Karpinski, Kohlhofer, Kent McCombs, Trae McDaniel, Eli Pack, Shane Percelay, Cole Stone and Vazquez were each recognized in the senior day ceremony alongside select family members.

Both duals opened at 174 lbs. Andrew Christie made very quick work of Hofstra's Matt Waddell, recording a quick takedown and a pin just 1:27 into the bout.

Cole Karpinski took the mat at 184 lbs and rode Pride wrestler Josh Jorgge the entirety of the second period on his way to an efficient win 9-6 win, in which he accumulated over two minutes of riding time.Â

Wolfgang Frable followed at 197 lbs and like Karpinski, also recorded a lengthy ride, this time in the third period to secure the riding time point in a 5-1 decision over Will Conlon.Â

Austin Kohlhofer made his 2025-26 dual debut at 285 lbs and was swift in his defeat of Adrian Sans, recording back points twice in the first period on his way to a pin in the second at 3:27.Â

Charlie Farmer turned the lineup over at 125 for the fourth bout of the opening dual, and although the opening period appeared to take on a slower-paced flow, Farmer quickly turned Teague Strobel on his back for Army's third pin of the night with 10 seconds remining in the period.

Nain Vazquez took the mat at 133 lbs for Army and absorbed a defeat to Hofstra's Gauge Shipp. One bout later at 141 lbs, Braden Basile and Chase Liardi provided the closest match to that point of the dual for the fans at Christl, with Basile holding on for a 9-4 win with the help of a pair of takedowns in the final half minute.Â

At 149 lbs, Ryan Franco knocked off Alex Turley, needing just the third period escape point to win 4-1. Then at 157 lbs, Joseph Antonio delivered a 21-4 technical fall over Hofstra's Zach Reilley, with a trio of takedowns in the first to set up the five team point a period later.Â

The dual vs. Hofstra ended with at 165 lbs with Ryan Alverado's career dual debut, taking a defeat to Jake Slotnick.

The dual vs. LIU may not have started at 125, but Cooper Haase needed just 1:25 to get the pin at 174 lbs over Greyson Catlow-Sidler as Army commenced the LIU dual with a 6-0 team lead.

Dave Barrett took the mat at 184 lbs and a 1-0 lead into the final two minutes, but surrendered a takedown in the match's closing moments, and absorbed a 4-1 defeat.Â

At 197 lbs, Reid Schroeder made quick work of Kalib Wright, using a second period reverse to kickstart a run towards a technical fall, which he got at the 3:52 mark to make it 11-3 Army in the team score.Â

Kohlhofer once again wrestled at heavyweight for the Black Knights, and with a 5-2 lead late in the match, scored a takedown in the final minute to pull away from Chris Powell for the decision.Â

The first period wasn't even over by the time Farmer finished his technical fall at 125 lbs, with a takedown on LIU's Sawyer Ostroff with 10 seconds left in the period for an 18-3 win.Â

Berginc saw his first action of the night at 133 lbs vs. LIU, and recorded Army's second consecutive 18-3 technical fall, defeating Cristopher Betancourt.Â

Conor Collins and LIU's Amir Avazov engaged in an entertaining and seemingly evenly-matched bout at 141 lbs, but a late second period reversal as well as stall multiple points helped Collins pull away down the stretch, and would draw a fifth stall call with two seconds left in the bout to claim the win by disqualification and earn six team points for Army.Â

Cole Stone scored exposure points in the first period at 149 lbs and would win 9-2 over Branden Rozanski at 149 lbs.

Antonio returned to the mat for the second time Saturday at 157 lbs, and despite giving up a full second period ride with back points to Brayden Roberts, he would score a reversal in the third and hold on for the 8-4 decision.Â
Â
Gunner Filipowicz ended the night for Army at 165 lbs, and ended the dual in style with a 16-1 technical fall over Jack Valentin in the first period.Â
