Wrestling Travels to Annapolis for the Star Dual
February 19, 2026 | Wrestling
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Army West Point wrestling has faced many tests in year one of the Troy Nickerson era. But the regular season is set to conclude in grand fashion for the Black Knights and the Class of 1972 Head Men's Wrestling Coach.
Â
Taking a two-match winning streak both this season—and against its rival—into Friday night, Army heads to Alumni Hall to take on the Navy Midshipmen.
Â
Army is 4-5 overall and 4-1 in EIWA action following wins two weeks ago against LIU and Hofstra.
Â
Friday's match is part of the Star Series Presented by USAA, with the Black Knights having won each of the past two wrestling stars, as well as seven of the past 11 dating back to 2015.
Â
The dual will be streamed live on Navy's YouTube channel.
Â
A season ago, the Black Knights won seven of the 10 bouts Sunday evening at Christl Arena to secure a 22-10 dual win over Navy, and sung second. While the score indicated a sound win, the match was narrowly decided, with the teams combining for just two bonus points and the dual only decided after the second to last bout.
Â
Army won the final three bouts of last year's matchup, securing the dual win ahead of the heavyweight match. Jakob Gilfoil rode out the third period in its entirety to win at 184 lbs, 2-0. Wolfgang Frable then scored a takedown in the waning moments of the 197 lb bout to clinch the dual win with a 7-2 decision. Finally, Lucas Stoddard won at 285 lbs with a decisive escape point.Â
Â
In 2024, the teams' last meeting in Annapolis, Army won 18-17 in a dual not decided until the final bout's conclusion, which also featured then-freshman Gunner Filipowicz's win over Navy's Andrew Cerniglia to snap the Midshipman's 15-match winning streak.
Â
Friday's dual shows potential to be just as evenly-matched, with Army slotted No. 28 in the most recent InterMat team dual rankings and Navy following one spot behind at No. 29.
Â
On February 12, the first RPI rankings of the season were released, featuring eight Army wrestlers.
