Baseball’s Overbeek Homers and Earns Win on Friday Night at Queens
February 27, 2026 | Baseball
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Army West Point baseball's Josiah Overbeek hit a home run and earned the win on the mound in relief on Friday night, as the Black Knights took down the Queens Royals 3-2 in Friday night's series-opener at The Stick Williams Dream Fields.
The freshman from Weatherford, Texas stood tall in the first and closing innings for Army, with a two-out solo home run deep to right field in the opening stanza. Then, after checking into the game on the mound after serving as the designated hitter for the front end of Friday's contest, he retired eight of the nine batters he faced from the seventh inning onwards, allowing no hits and collecting a pair of strikeouts over 2.2 innings pitched.
Army moves to 3-4 with the win Friday.
Kevin Reavey started Friday's contest and went five innings, striking out five and allowing two earned runs. It was his second start of the season after getting the nod in the series finale at Clemson on opening weekend February 14.
Anthony Ramirez was the first arm out of Chris Tracz's bullpen for Army. He collected two strikeouts and worked around a jam in the sixth, leaving the game with no runs allowed.
The Royals got on the scoreboard first with a two-out double in the bottom of the first inning. Overbeek's solo homer came a frame later and tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the second.
Army took the lead in the fifth when a Zac Farrell ground ball to the Royals' third baseman resulted in a throwing error to first base, allowing Overbeek to cross the plate for the second time Friday night after doubling one at bat earlier.
But the Black Knights' lead would be short-lived, as Queens would tie the contest in the home half of the fifth. Army would limit the damage to just that one run, with the help of a throw by third baseman David Dubrule for an out at home plate.
Army kept the game tied thanks to a pair of jams escaped in the sixth and seventh. In both innings, Queens loaded the bases, and with just one outs in the sixth. However, a pair of strikeouts from Ramirez in the sixth and an induced groundout by Overbeek in the seventh would keep the game at 2-2.
Dubrule would then come through for offensively Army in the top of the eighth, finding an opening on the right side of the infield for a two-out, opposite-field RBI single to bring home Farrell.
Looking to preserve the lead and finish the game for Army, Overbeek left little to chance over the final two innings, with a perfect eighth and ninth to close out the Royals in the first of three meetings this weekend.
By the Numbers
4: Of Army's five hits Friday, four came from plebe bats. Two of those were from Overbeek and the other two were from Dubrule. The freshman pair also recorded both RBIs for Army on Friday.

Black Knight Notes
Overbeek hit a home run and pitched in the same game for Army, the second time he's done so this season and just the second occurrence by a Black Knight since 2011.
Overbeek has reached base in each game this season.
Friday's game was just the 13th night game for the Black Knights in the Chris Tracz era. Army improved to 7-6 in those games.
Army moves to 43-5 over the Tracz era when allowing two or fewer runs in a game.
The Black Knights played error-free baseball for the fifth consecutive game and the fifth time in 2026.
