WEST POINT, N.Y. – It was a successful Saturday afternoon for the Army West Point track on field program on Saturday afternoon, as the Black Knights hosted the West Point Tune-Up at Gillis Field House.
This was the final regular season meet of the season, as Army will head to the Patriot League Track and Field Indoor Championships next week at Boston U.
Jordan Hecht was the highlight of the day, as the junior thrower set the Gillis Field House facility record in the shot put with a mark of 16.60m. The distance is an indoor personal best and the second-best in program history. Emily Fink holds the record at 16.82m.
Elce Walsh had an impressive showing in the pole vault, recording a mark of 3.70m, which won the event and places her 8th all-time in program history.
On the men's side, Van Carter cracked the top 10 in program history with a 4.95m in the pole vault to win the event.
"This was our last tune up before the patriot league meet. Some of our people were competing to try and make the roster for next weekend and some people were out there sharpening up for next weekend," said Director of Track and Field Mike Smith. "We will assemble our best 32 people for each team and then line up and see what we can do. We have two strong teams that can compete at the top of the conference."
In addition to the highlighted performances above, Army recorded several additional event wins and top 10 finishes.
