Hockey Claims 1-0 Shootout Win at Air Force

USAFA, Colo. – Army West Point hockey (12-14-6, 7-13-3 Atlantic Hockey America) earned a 1-0 shootout win in game two at Air Force (15-13-3, 11-10-2 Atlantic Hockey America) on Saturday evening.
After a tumultuous game two in the series at Cadet Ice Arena that went scoreless through regulation and overtime, the Black Knights earned a 1-0 shootout win off the stick of sophomore forward Dylan Wegner.
After a career night on Friday, JJ Cataldo returned to his post between the pipes where he tallied 32 saves against Air Force's 32 shots on goal.
Air Force placed Dominik Wasik at the other end of the ice where the Falcon recorded 30 saves on Army's 30 shots on goal.
Following the tumultuous game on Friday night, the two teams were locked in a tight battle as they met for the fourth time this season.
The first two periods of action passed with a bevy of hits and offensive chances for both teams, but neither squad relinquished ground as the game continued.
After 40 minutes elapsed, the two teams stood tied at 0-0 with 15 shots on goal and 15 saves each to extend the tension into the third period.
The back-and-forth play continued as the two teams tallied their highest shot counts of the night in the third frame with 13 for Army and 11 for Air Force but the stalemate continued and forced the game into overtime.
Air Force fought to score in front of their home crowd, logging six shots in the overtime period to Army's two but neither team could break the standoff, and the contest entered the shootout.
The Black Knights sent Billy Batten, Dylan Wegner, and Ben Ivey out to face the Falcons and Dylan Wegner scored his second goal of the season to give Army the edge and JJ Cataldo held down the fort at the other end of the ice with three stops to secure the shootout win.
