Wrestling to Host Lehigh at Christl Sunday

WEST POINT N.Y. – Army West Point wrestling will face off against Lehigh on Sunday at Christl Arena.

Sunday's matchup will stream on FloWresling.

The Black Knights head into the matchup following two straight wins, against American and Bucknell, claiming a 2-0 record in EIWA contests to improve to 2-4 overall on the season.

Last time out against Bucknell, Army claimed a 23-12 win, taking six of the 10 bouts.

Army tied the team score in the afternoon's second bout with a win 6-5 win by Joseph Antionio at 157 lbs by sudden victory decision.

Looking to climb ahead, the Black Knights' Gunner Filipowicz at 165 lbs delivered by pinning the ranked Noah Mulvaney just 23 seconds into the second period, giving Army a 9-3 lead in the dual. At 197 lbs, Wolfgang Frable used a late takedown to earn a 4-1 win over Bucknell's Dillon Bechtold.

Looking to give Army its first team lead of the afternoon at 165 lbs, Gunner Filipowicz delivered in emphatic fashion, turning ranked foe Noah Mulvaney on his back from the bottom position and pinning the Bison wrestler just 23 seconds into the second period, giving Army a 9-3 lead in the dual. The match propelled Filipowicz to EIWA Wrestler of the Week honors on January 27.

Three bouts later at 197 lbs, Wolfgang Frable too found himself in a late-match showdown. And facing a 1-1 stalemate, Frable secured a takedown in the closing seconds to defeat Dillon Bechtold 4-1 and give Army the lead once more in the dual.

Joseph Antonio, Brady Colbert, Ethan Berginc and Braden Basile also won their respective matches.

The Black Knights will remain at home next weekend with duals against EIWA opponents Hofstra and LIU at Christl Arena on February 7. Action begins at 6:30 p.m. with the senior night ceremony between matches.
