Women’s Basketball Drops Road Battle to Navy
January 24, 2026 | Women's Basketball
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Army West Point women's basketball team struggled to generate offense on Saturday, as it fell to Navy, 60-44, at Alumni Hall on Saturday afternoon.
Army (15-4, 6-2) had its worst shooting game of the season, knocking down 27.4 percent of its shots, as its seven-game winning streak against Navy (12-6, 7-1) came to an end. The shooting percentage is the worst in a game for the Black Knights in their Division I era.
Navy built up a first quarter lead and never looked back, leading for 39:43 while Army did not lead once. The two teams had even scores during the middle two periods, but the Midshipmen won the first quarter by seven and the fourth quarter by nine.
The Midshipmen jumped ahead to an early 5-0 lead while the Black Knights struggled to find the bottom of the bucket before Kya Smith got Army on the board 2:33 into the game on a layup. Navy continued to pace the floor and brought a 13-5 lead into the first media timeout of the game.
Trailing 15-5, the Black Knights went on an 8-0 run to cut the deficit to two with just over a minute left in the quarter. However, Navy answered with a 5-0 run of its own to hold a 20-13 lead after 10 minutes of action. The Black Knights shot 29.4 percent in the period, while Navy went 9-13 from the field.
The second quarter was the worst offensive period for both teams, as they went a combined 5-27 from the field and 0-8 from distance. The two sides went scoreless over the final 1:56 of the period as Navy took a 30-23 lead into halftime.
Camryn Tade had a game-high nine points at the break to lead the Black Knights, but the team went 8-31 on its shot attempts in the opening 20 minutes of action.
The third quarter was the best offensive period for the Black Knights, but it still couldn't quite piece together the buckets and stops it needed to pry their way back. Army shot 35.3 percent in the quarter but was unable to cut the deficit down by more than six. Reganne Reardon recorded a big layup in the paint with less than 30 seconds left to cut the Navy lead to 44-37 going into the final regulation quarter.
Smith opened the fourth quarter with a layup, bringing the Midshipmen lead down to five, but Navy caught fire and closed the quarter on a 16-5 run. With the win, the Midshipmen take over sole possession of first place in the Patriot League standings. After making its first shot, Army finished the quarter making just two of its last 13 attempts.

Quotable – Head Coach Katie Kuester
"Kudos to Navy. I have a ton of respect for what they've done over time. You look at the last four and five years, and now you look at them today, 7-1 in the conference, so they were phenomenal today. Every run that we made, they responded. It's obviously a disappointing one, and [we're] excited that we get another opportunity at them in the next month."

Army will return to action on Wednesday night, as it travels to Bethlehem, Pa., to take on Lehigh. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
