Men’s Rugby Set to Face Southern Virginia at Home
September 26, 2025 | Men's Rugby
WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army West Point men's rugby returns home to face Southern Virginia, for another Rugby East matchup, this Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Anderson Rugby Complex.
YouTube will provide Saturday afternoon's stream.
Army heads into this matchup with a 2-1 record, beating Guelph and Walsh to start the season while falling to Life University in its previous match.
Over their first two matches of the season, the Black Knights had a pair of dominant victories. But in their previous match against Life University, it was difficult for Army to find the try zone. In the first two minutes of the match Army quickly found themselves in a 7-0 hole but would respond seven minutes later with a try from Luke Leech and conversion from Howie Heller. Unfortunately, this would be the only time the Black Knights would score in a 35-7 road loss to the Running Eagles in Georgia.
Army and Southern Virginia have only played each other once before, on Sept. 20 a season ago, where the Black Knights dominated in a 48-7 victory. Saturday's fixture serves as Southern Virginia's first away match and second match of the season. They come into this weekend with a 1-0 record after a 75-14 win over James Madison.
Saturday's match will represent the back end of a twin bill, featuring the Army women's rugby team and its noon fixture vs. Ivy League foe Brown. The match vs. Southern Virginia will follow.
Army hits the road again next weekend to face Mary Washington on Oct. 4, kicking off a three-match road run. The Black Knights are back at home again November 7 vs. Penn State.
