Army Women’s Soccer Drops Match at American

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Army West Point women's soccer opened Patriot League play on Saturday afternoon at the American Eagles (1-5-3, 1-0-0 Patriot League). The Army Black Knights (6-3-1, 0-1-0 Patriot League) fell in the conference opener by a score of 2-1.
In the loss, freshman Sophia Henry scored her fifth goal of the season and her first goal in Patriot League play. Sophomore Karalyn Dail and junior Kaitlyn Stake combined for seven saves in net for the Black Knights.

The Black Knights will next be in action looking for their first Patriot League victory of the 2025 season on Friday, Sept. 26 at 6 p.m. at Lehigh in Bethlehem, Pa.

- Army pushed hard in the opening minutes of the game, controlling the ball for the majority of the opening 45 minutes. The Black Knights has nine shots on goal in the first half with three on net and four corner kicks.
- Army was unable to find the back of the net resulting in a 0-0 tie going into the final stanza. In the 68th minute, freshman Sophia Henry opened the scoring for the game. Senior Bella Cooke dribbled the ball down into the corner on the right side. With space running out she crossed it into the box, where Henry headed it into the left side of the net.
- American struck back with the equalizer at 76:33. The initial shot was stopped by junior Kaitlyn Stake but American was able to collect the rebound and put it in.
- In the final minute, déjà vu occurred as Stake made the initial save but the American players put in the eventual game-winner.
