Women’s Soccer’s Late Push Comes Up Short in 1-0 Defeat

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Army West Point women's soccer dropped a close 1-0 defeat to the Providence Friars (1-0-0) to open the 2025 season. Army (0-1-0) had nine players make their first appearance in a Black Knight uniform.
The Friars were able to sneak in the eventual game-winner in the 71st minute after a back-and-forth game. The Black Knights had many chances late in the game to find the equalizer with five shots in the final 19 minutes.

- The Black Knights started hot with a shot from senior Brigid Duffy just 40 seconds into the game.
- Nine minutes into the game, the Black Knights defense and sophomore Karalyn Dail got their first test with a Providence corner, but it was cleared out.
- Under 15 minutes into the game, senior Bella Cooke took a shot on net that resulted in a corner kick for the Black Knights. Sophomore Grace Pohlidal was knocking on the door with two shots from the corner but was unable to put it in the back of the net.
- In the 33rd minute, freshman Ragon Francy and Leila Castell subbed into the game for their first appearances in a collegiate soccer game and later in the 40th minute Olivia Jungkunst subbed in.
- Coming out of halftime, freshman Ailyn Rowe made her first appearance on the pitch. Early in the second half the Black Knights were pushing into the offensive zone with multiple crosses but were unable to connect to put it in the net.
- In the 57th minute, Army was able to earn their second corner kick of the match but were unable to capitalize off the chance.
- In the 71st minute, the Friars were able to strike first and the eventual game-winner. Providence continued to push but were stopped by Dail.
