May 04, 2025 | Softball
WEST POINT, N.Y. — Army West Point Softball (33-20, 16-2) completed the series sweep against the Colgate (18-33, 6-12) on Sunday, securing the honor of being called the outright Patriot League Regular Season Champion.
With the wins, the Black Knights finish the season 6-0 in series against Patriot League play this season. The Black Knights's only two losses in league play were against Holy Cross (April 13) and Boston University (April 19).
The Black Knights won game two of the series 9-6. The second game of the series started on Saturday before rain suspended play in the bottom of the third inning, where the Black Knight held a 4-3 lead.
Before the suspension, Caitlyn Newburn led the Black Knights with two hits in the game, including a three-run left-center home run.
On Sunday, the Black Knights picked up where they left off, outscoring the Raiders 5-3, with Taylor Brown ultimately finishing the game with four hits off four at-bats, scoring three runs and adding four RBIs, hitting two singles, a triple and a home run.
Alongside Caitlyn Newburn, Annie Christiana, Ashton White, Breanna Coonfare and Maaika Dones each added two of the Black Knights' 16 hits of the game. Sienna Tepley and Leila Hurst also each added one hit.
Game three of the series was a lower-scoring affair, but Army was able to come back from a seventh-inning 1-2 deficit, ultimately taking a 3-2 win to complete the series sweep.
It was senior infielder Leila Hurst's sacrifice fly on Senior Day to help Army get the win. Hurst also recorded a single on the day.
Annie Christiana led the offense with two hits in game three, serving as the game-tying run. Taylor Brown also added a hit, an RBI single, and ultimately served as the go-ahead run in the seventh.
Amanda Eaglin received the start in game two, and ultimately earned her seventh win of the season, with Breanna Izzo also receiving a save in game two. Izzo started game two, but Katelyn Flanders earned her 11th win of the season in relief in 2.2 innings pitch, only allowing one hit and one walk while recording four strikeouts.
GAME 1
In the top of the first inning, the Raiders were able to reach on a fielding error from Taylor Brown, but three putouts from the Black Knights' defense left the runner stranded.
The top of the first started with a single from Annie Christiana and a single from Taylor Brown. Then two batters later, Caitlin Newburn hit a deep shot to left center to make it a 3-0 game in Army's favor.
Leila Hurst and Breanna Coonfare were able to reach base due to hitting two singles, the Maaika Dones reached on an error.
Tayten Moore then got up to bat, then drew a bases-loaded walk to make it a 4-0 game. The bases were left loaded, but the Black Knights had already caused damage offensively.

Ashton White followed Brown with an RBI single to right field, scoring Brown, making it a 7-3 game in Army's favor.
The Raiders started the fourth inning drawing a hit by a pitch from Eaglin, but two fielder's choices and Eaglin getting her first strikeout on Sunday retired the runner.

Both teams were able to get movement on the base paths in the third inning, with Colgate adding another single and Ashton White drawing a walk, but the game remained 1-0 in Army's favor.
In the top of the fourth inning, the Raiders made their move, scoring two runs off three hits, featuring a two-run home run, but with two on, Izzo and the Black Knights minimized the damage, making it only a 2-1 deficit for Army to come back from.
Army went three and out in the bottom of the fourth, while Colgate was able to get two on in the top of the fifth with a one-out single and double.
