STORRS, Conn. – Army West Point Baseball—fresh off a three-game series sweep this past weekend vs. Lafayette—hits the road Wednesday for its only midweek game away from Doubleday Field.Â
Â
First pitch from Elliot Ballpark in Storrs is set for 5:05 p.m. UConn+ will stream the contest for free.Â
Â
Notes and Storylines
Â
» Army currently sits in third place in the Patriot League standings, with three conference to go. The following magic numbers are in effect with conference opponents: Holy Cross (6), Navy (4), Lafayette (1) and Lehigh (1). Army has already clinched a higher spot than Bucknell, and now just needs one of the four numbers listed to hit to clinch a postseason berth. Three of those numbers hitting would secure home field advantage in at least the first round, and all four numbers hitting would result in the No. 1 seed. Any Army win OR opponent loss would bring each number down by one.
Â
» Army leads the all-time series history vs. UConn, 7-2-1. The teams are in action vs. each other for the first time since a 6-5 Army home win in 2005 and visit Storrs for the first time since 1983.Â
Â
» Army took all three games off Lafayette in last weekend's three-game series April 19-20. In Saturday's doubleheader, the Black Knights never trailed, riding home runs from Jack Quinlan and Thomas Schreck, and effective outings from starting pitchers Andrew Berg and Justin Lehman to 5-2 and 9-4 wins.
Â
Trailing by a run in the eighth of Easter Sunday's series finale, Schreck resurrected Army's hopes for a sweep with a two-run double to the left-center wall, giving the Black Knights a 7-6 lead that stood.
Â
Army's three-game series sweep was the first by the program in a series of three or more games since April 22-23, 2023 at Navy. The Black Knights also finished a regular season 5-0 against the same team for the first time since vs. Navy in 2023.
Â
» SS Thomas Schreck has served as the quintessential double leadoff hitter in Army's lineup, having started every game at shortstop this year and 32 of 38 games in the bottom of the batting order. He is second on the team with a .319 AVG and carries a 24-game on-base streak, the longest streak by a Black Knights this year.
Â
Schreck was 4-for-8 in Army's sweep over Lafayette, with a three-run home run in Game 2 of the series and a two-run double in the series finale, totaling six RBIs across the weekend.
Â
He hit his first home run of the season in Game 1 of a March 29 doubleheader vs. Bucknell, as the Black Knights came back from 7-0 down to win the game and later, sweep the twin bill. Schreck has reached base in 21 games in a row heading into the Lafayette series, the longest on-base streak by a Black Knight this season.
Â
Schreck was named Patriot League Player of the Week March 3 after Army's three-game series at Air Force February 28-March 2.
Â
» C Jack Quinlan is leading Army in both AVG (.330) and OPS (1.062), having started 28 games behind the plate. He had a solo home run in Army's series opener vs. Lafayette April 19.
Â
Quinlan was named Patriot League Player of the Week during Army's April 14 game vs. Lehigh, after a standout performance in vs. Lehigh in an April 13 doubleheader. The Long Island native went 3-for-4 in Game 1 and 3-for-5 in Game 2 of the twin bill, totaling six RBIs across the games. He also hit a solo home run in the nightcap.
Â
His five home runs are tied for the team-high in 2025.
Â
» 2B/LF Chris Barr has displayed both speed and consistency at the top of the lineup, becoming one of the team's most potent offensive threats. His .314 AVG is third on the team and he leads Army with 26 stolen bases. Barr has eclipsed the 25 stolen base mark in a single Army season for the first time since Hunter Meade stole 32 bases in 2022. Barr's three stolen bases in Game 2 of the April 19 doubleheader vs. Lafayette also tied a career-high for Barr set previously vs. Air Force a season ago.
Â
During his 8-for-9 doubleheader output vs. Bucknell March 29, Chris Barr increased his batting average by 53 points Saturday, from .250 before the doubleheader to .303 afterwards. The junior from Sarasota, Fla. drove in four total runs across both games, including his two-out, three-run triple in the nightcap. He also crossed the plate seven times. Barr was a double away from the cycle in Army's series finale at Navy March 16, going 4-for-5 with a seventh inning home run.
Â
After starting 30 consecutive games in left field, Barr returned to the starting lineup at second base April 16 vs. Holy Cross and remained there for the Lafayette series. He started the first four games of the season at second base after spending most of 2024 at that position.
Â
» William Parker recovered from offseason Tommy John Surgery in time to make his season debut at Fordham March 7. After starting 25 games exclusively as the DH, the junior made his left field debut Wednesday vs. Holy Cross, his primary defensive position in 2024. He remained the starter in left over all three games vs. Lafayette April 19-20.
Â
Parker was named Patriot League Player of the Week March 24. In addition to two-clutch home runs in a March 22 twin bill at Lafayette, the Hopedale, Mass. native was a combined 6-for-17 against Lehigh and Lafayette March 22-23, and totaled eight RBIs in the four games, including four in the nightcap at Lafayette. His five home runs in 2025 are tied for the team-high.
Â
» While Army has depended on its starting pitchers for lengthy outings, the Black Knight bullpen has also delivered when called upon. Last season, Army recorded just six total saves, and no individual pitcher logged more than two. But already in 2025, Robbie Penswick has earned five saves and Kevin Reavey has earned four.
Â
Penswick claimed a four-out save vs. Lafayette April 19 in the doubleheader daycap before Reavey's scoreless ninth inning clinched the series sweep one day later. Against Lafayette, Army's relief pitching combined for 12.1 innings, 12 strikeouts, just three walks and only one earned run.
