WEST POINT, N.Y – The Army West Point football team and head coach Jeff Monken have announced their team captains for the 2025 season. Rising senior inside linebackers Kalib Fortner and Andon Thomas will lead the Black Knights in the fall.
Fortner started in all 14 games alongside Thomas at the inside linebacker position. Fortner has started in 23 of 26 games dating back to the start of his sophomore season in 2023. In 2024, he led the team with 9.5 tackles for loss and was second with 81 tackles. He also logged two sacks. He was named an AAC honorable mention. In 2023, he was named the MVP of the Army-Navy Game making the play of the game by stripping the Navy quarterback, scooping up the ball, and returning it 44 yards for a touchdown to give Army a 17-3 lead with just 4:49 to play in the fourth quarter, an eventual Army victory to win the 2023 CIC Trophy.
Thomas enjoyed a breakout season in 2024, starting in all 14 games, leading the Army defense with 98 tackles (48 solo). He also registered 3.5 tackles for loss, half a sack, and hauled in two interceptions. He was selected to the AAC all-conference third team for his standout play. An exceptional cadet in the classroom, Thomas was named to the Academic All-America First Team, maintaining a 3.98 grade point average while majoring in chemical engineering.
Last season, Army had four team captains: Bryson Daily, Max DiDomenico, Kyle Lewis, and Cody Winokur.
The Black Knights open the 2025 season at Michie Stadium on Friday, August 29, vs. Tarleton State.
