Track and Field Returns to East Coast for Monmouth Season Opener

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. — Army West Point Track and Field returned to the East Coast on Friday and Saturday competing at the Monmouth Season Opener.
The Black Knights saw multiple top finishes across several events.
In the women's hammer throw, senior Emily Fink delivered a stellar performance, winning the event with a throw of 67.52m. The mark was a historic one too, breaking the program record, service academy record, and now sits as the number two mark at the NCAA Div. I level.
In the 3000m steeplechase, freshman Jess Joe Augustine finished 1st with an impressive time of 9:31.82, which now ranks as the No. 99 rank across all of Div. I.
In the men's hammer throw, junior Robby Manse excelled, placing second with a throw of 60.13m Nwosu and freshman Collin Torres also posted solid results, finishing 10th and 13th with throws of 51.80m and 48.08m, respectively.
On the women's side, freshman Olivia Reed made waves in the long jump, setting a personal best of 5.72m to finish third. Freshman Nala Best and senior Jackie Comeau also competed in the event, finishing 22nd and 24th.
In the men's 100m, freshman Levi Ferrell led the way for Army with a time of 11.02, finishing 18th overall. He was followed by fellow freshman Huston Powers, who clocked 11.21 for 31st, and sophomore Caleb McGarity, who posted a time of 11.25 to take 34th place. Freshman Brandon Hull rounded out the group with a time of 11.34, finishing 40th.
For the women, freshman Faith Kibbe led the Army contingent with a time of 12.75, placing 18th in the 100m. Freshman Nala Best followed closely behind in 24th with a time of 12.88, while senior Jackie Comeau finished 27th with a time of 12.99.
In the men's 110m hurdles, junior Austin Hernandez delivered a solid performance, finishing 11th with a time of 14.87. Freshman Brooke Munoz competed in the women's 100m hurdles, running 15.91 to finish 23rd.
The men's 800m saw freshman Jordan Taylor achieve a personal best of 1:55.78, securing a fourth-place finish. Teammates John Afari-Akins and Brady Smith also impressed, finishing 19th and 26th, respectively, with times of 1:58.78 and 2:00.64.
In the women's 800m, freshman Alma Lazo Cazares dominated the field, winning the event with a personal best of 2:13.42. She earned 10 points for the team. Freshmen Lauren Gallagher and sophomore Kara Sinnott also shone, finishing 5th and 6th with times of 2:15.45 and 2:15.82, respectively.
The men's 1500m race featured strong showings, led by sophomore Harrison Lavery, who set a personal record of 4:03.07, finishing 13th. Freshmen Christian Bachmann and Ryan Rheam rounded out the top 15, placing 14th and 15th with times of 4:03.59 and 4:04.03.
In the men's 4x100m relay, the team of Owen Lang, Levi Ferrell, Jaxon Hammond, and Chad Dohl finished third with a time of 41.69. Another team including Austin Hernandez, Adrian Rheam, Caleb McGarity, and Huston Powers also contributed, finishing 6th with a time of 43.16.
For the women, the 4x400m relay was another standout, securing second place in 3:49.97, now ranking as the No. 95 mark in Div. I. The team consisted of Faith Kibbe, Kara Sinnott, Hannah Andrews, and Ever Elegon.
In the men's discus throw, junior Jacob Bowersock led the team with a 5th-place finish, tossing 49.57m. Senior Jake Nwosu also delivered a strong performance, finishing sixth with a season-best of 49.38m. Freshman Calvin Bowens added depth, securing 14th place with a throw of 41.81m.
In the triple jump, freshman Kwame Amoo-Otoo had a notable performance, jumping 13.91m to finish sixth and set a new personal best for 2025, ranking No. 96 in Div. I.
Up next, the Black Knights have one of their biggest meets of the outdoor season, heading to Annapolis, Maryland for a face-off against Navy for the Annual Outdoor Star Meet.
The battle for the Star will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday.
