Baseball Drops Games to Navy Friday
March 28, 2025 | Baseball
WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army West Point Baseball was seeking a season series win Friday over the Navy Midshipmen, but found themselves on the short end of two games at Doubleday Field.
Â
Game 1
Â
The Black Knights got a complete game from starting pitcher Andrew Berg in the seven-inning daycap, but couldn't generate any runs and fell 3-0.
Â
A two-run double from the Mids in the second and an RBI single in the sixth were all the offense Navy needed in Game 1.Â
Â
Berg struck out five Midshipmen, walking just one, but was on the unfavorable end of the decision.Â
Â
Army's most stern threat of the early game Friday came in the third, when Coleson Titus drew a leadoff walked and stole a base to advance into scoring position.Â
Â
Berg faced the minimum number of batters in two innings.Â
Â
Game 2
Â
The Black Knights couldn't force a twin bill split in Game 2, falling 5-1 in the nine-inning nightcap.
Â
The Mids scored a run each in the first three innings, never looking back.
Â
Army got on the scoreboard in the sixth inning, with a Chris Barr RBI single to score Thomas Schreck.Â
Â
Navy added two runs in the ninth.
Â
Starting pitcher Justin Lehman pitched eight frames, facing a pair of batters in the ninth inning. He did not surrender a walk across the contest.Â
Â
By the Numbers
Â
14: Berg went 14 batters without allowing a hit in Game 1, from the second into sixth innings.Â
Â
3: Schreck recorded three base hits across the twin bill, going 1-for-2 in Game 1 and 2-for-3 in Game 2, with a pair of doubles in the second contest.Â
Â
1: Army walked just one Midshipmen across the 16 total innings Friday.
Â
Black Knight Notes
Â
Berg's complete game in the seven-inning daycap was the third complete game by a Black Knight this season. It was also the second time in the teams' last nine meetings with each other that both pitchers recorded a complete game, with the prior one coming April 26, 2024.
Â
Lehman's eight-inning game was his fifth start on the mound of six or more innings this season, and the second start by a Black Knight of eight innings or longer in 2025 after Berg went 8.1 innings at Navy March 15.Â
