Baseball Drops Series Finale at Navy
March 16, 2025 | Baseball
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Army West Point Baseball and the Navy Midshipmen took a tie game into the bottom of the seventh inning, but the Mids scored twice to create permanent separation, and the Black Knights went on to fall 5-3.
Army will see Navy again for a doubleheader March 29 at Doubleday Field, but Sunday's series rubber matchup represented the decisive game in baseball's iteration of the Star Series presented by USAA.
The Black Knights retain an 11-9 lead in the all-sport competition.
Bryce Brownlee struck out a career-high seven batters across his six-inning start, taking a no-decision.
Trey Ates absorbed the decision, and Robbie Penswick finished the game with 1.2 scoreless frames in his second game in a row with a relief appearance.
Army drew first blood in the game's fourth inning, with a Jack Quinlan RBI single and a John McKillop RBI double that just barely missed leaving the park.
Navy took its first lead of the afternoon on a two-run homer in the sixth, but Chris Barr followed a frame later with a solo home run to make it 3-3.
A two-run single would push the Mids ahead for good in the seventh inning, but Penswick would keep the game at arm's length for the remainder of the afternoon, stranding a pair of baserunners in the seventh and inducing an inning-ending double play in the eighth.
By the Numbers
4-for-5: Barr went 4-for-5 with a triple and home run, finishing the game a double away from the cycle.
3-for-3: McKillop was 3-for-3 Sunday with a trio of doubles. It was the first three-double game from a Black Knight since Anthony Giachin at Lehigh May 26, 2021 in Game 1 of the Patriot League Championship Series
3: Parker drew three walks for Army.
Black Knight Notes
Army used the same batting order in consecutive games for the first time in 2025.
The all-time series between the storied rivals now sits at 134-133, with the Black Knights holding onto the razor-thin edge.
Next Up
Army is back at home Wednesday to face Maine, before returning to Patriot League play with doubleheaders at Lehigh and at Lafayette next weekend.
