LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Army West Point men's soccer team came up just short of recording a point on Saturday night as Bucknell scored in the 90th minute to secure a 1-0 win at Holmes Field.
Army (3-4-4) struggled to generate anything on offense, recording just two shots on goal all night but was able to keep Bucknell (6-2-3) off the board up until the 89:31 mark. Jimmy Pombor finally broke through for the Bison, scoring the only goal of the night to clinch the victory. Army has given up four goals this season in the final 10 minutes of action.
Michael Guiry was impressive for the Black Knights in goal, putting together a career-high eight saves, including six in the second half. Saturday marked the seventh time this season that Guiry allowed one goal or less in a start. On the other side of the field, Freddie Lapworth made two saves to record his sixth victory this fall.
The Bison outshot the Black Knights 18-10 and peppered 10 shots towards the Army goal in the second half. The two teams were even in corner kicks with three each.
Saturday marked the first time this season that Army has lost a game that started after 4 p.m. The Black Knights entered with a 3-0-4 record at night.
