Bryson Daily Named National Collegiate Quarterback of the Year
January 10, 2025 | Football
Â
Bryson Daily had a record-setting season in 2024, breaking numerous long-standing Army program records and NCAA records on his way to being named the American Athletic Offensive Player of the Year. Daily's 32 rushing touchdowns broke the record for most in a single season by a quarterback in FBS history, breaking former Navy quarterback Keenan Reynolds' record (2013).
Â
"We have all at one point or another heard the story of The Sermon on the Mount. And maybe you tie it to the origins of phrases like 'Salt of the Earth'. Well…", said Don Kile, president of the National Quarterback Club, "Bryson Daily is just that. The 'salt of the earth'. We will enjoy celebrating, not only Bryson's athletic accomplishments but, the young man and his family for renewing our enthusiasm and reminding us just how simple and clean this game truly is. During a time when there is so much consternation and a general lack of grace in the world, it will be a true pleasure to celebrate this young man. Bryson Daily has left his mark on the college game…beyond the statistics."
Â
The Abernathy, Texas native set the single-season Army record for touchdowns responsible for in a season (41), rushing touchdowns in a season (32), and rushing touchdowns in a single game (5) as well as setting a new top mark for most rushing touchdowns in American Athletic Conference season history.
Â
Daily started in all 13 games that he played out of 14, rushing for 32 touchdowns and 1,659 yards which were good enough to finish No. 6th in the Heisman Trophy voting, the highest by an Army player since when Pete Dawkins won the award in 1958.
Â
Daily guided Army to a 13-game winning streak, which began with the last four games of the 2023 season and extended through the first nine games of the 2024 season, the longest active winning streak nationally before falling to Notre Dame in November. It was Army's longest winning streak since between the 1949-1950 seasons. Army maintained a spot in the AP Top 25 for nine consecutive weeks, the longest stretch since being ranked each week of the 1958 season. By ending the season with a victory in the Independence Bowl, Army captured its 12th victory, the most ever in a single season in program history.
Â
Daily started 24 games at quarterback in his career and ended his stellar season and career at the academy rushing for 127 yards and three touchdowns on his way to Offensive Player of the Game honors in the Independence Bowl (12/28/24).
Â
Daily scored six touchdowns, five on the ground, and one passing vs. East Carolina (10/19), the first six touchdown accounted for game by an Army player in 108 years since Elmer Oliphant's six-touchdown day in 1916. Daily rushed for 100 yards in 10 consecutive games this season, now the most 100-yard games by an Army rusher in single-season history, breaking Mike Mayweather's record (8, 1990).
Â
Daily has also taken home the Brian Westbrook Regional Player of the Year Award presented by the Maxwell Football Club and is a finalist for the Earl Campbell Award.
