Conti, Silvestro Power Women's Soccer Past UMass 3-2
August 22, 2024 | Women's Soccer
WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point women's soccer team earned a thrilling 3-2 win over UMass. Bella Conti introduced herself to Army fans with a two-goal performance.
Army was on the front foot from the jump, with Conti netting her first career goal in the 15th minute on a great assist from Sabrina Rogers. Only 10 minutes later, the freshman chipped a shot over the UMass keepers out stretched arms to give Army a 2-0 lead.
In the 35th minute the Minutewomen would get a goal back to make things 2-1 going into the break. In the 59th minute they'd score again to tie things up.
UMass kept the pressure on forcing reigning Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week Sage Strohman to make seven saves with four of them coming in the second half.
In the 69th minute, the UMass keeper made a pass that Cami Silvestro immediately intercepted and fired it home from nearly 25 yards out to put the Black Knights back on top.
Army would kill off the remaining 20 minutes to hold on for its second straight win. The brace by Bella Conti is the first by an Army freshman since Aug. 29, 2019, when Elise Urkov slotted two home against UAlbany.
The Black Knights move to 2-1 on the season with another home game against Central Connecticut State on Sunday at 1 pm from Malek Stadium. There will be a poster giveaway and postgame autograph session.
