May 21, 2024 | Volleyball
WEST POINT, NY - Army West Point volleyball senior Isabella Sullivan has been the Scholar-Athlete of the Year by the Center for Enhanced Performance, announced today.
CDT Isabella Sullivan currently maintains a 3.776 cumulative GPA as an International History major with Honors, making the Dean's list every semester she's been at West Point. She recently earned the Dean's Pentathlete Award for achieving a TQPA of 4.00 or greater and earning a letter grade of A- or better in all academic, physical, and military science courses as well as military development.Â
Â
On November 11, 2023, Isabella was named a 2024 Rhodes Scholarship Recipient; as such, she will pursue a Master's of Science in Evidence Based Social Intervention and Policy Evaluation at the University of Oxford starting in the fall of 2024. The Rhodes Trust only named 32 Americans who were  chosen as Rhodes Scholars on this year. Rhodes Scholarships provide all expenses for two or three years of study at the University of Oxford—ranked the #1 university in the world in some global rankings —and may allow funding in some instances for four years. As a Rhodes Scholar, Sullivan will study public policy and education to better understand how and where leaders can inject character and leadership development to bridge cultural divides within communities around the globe. She hopes to serve as a Medical Service Officer where she would continue to lead soldiers but also move her larger organization forward as the primary medical administrator for 500+ personnel.
Â
In the summer of 2023, Isabella served as the Regimental Commander for Cadet Basic Training, overseeing cadet cadre and the training and development of 1250 new cadets as they entered West Point. She calmly led through an historic flood that devastated West Point, ensuring the safety of all personnel under her command. She served as the Deputy Brigade Commander, Isabella's impact continues to resonate throughout the Corps of Cadets. She volunteers her time as a Mounger Writing Fellow and developed a cultural competency training program that was ultimately adopted into Cadet Basic Training for the Class of 2025.
Â
On May 9 Isabella was also named as one of the recipients of the 18th annual Coach Mike Krzyzewski Teaching Character Through Sports Award. The award recognizes West Point cadet athletes, coaches, officers in charge (OIC), and sports educators for their outstanding commitment to the development of noble character through athletic participation and leadership.
Â
For two years, Isabella has served as a Team Captain for Army Volleyball. Isabella facilitated team character education sessions and led the development of the team values "Grace, Grit, Growth." She has been instrumental in building a positive and winning team culture. On the court, Isabella contributes as both as a setter and defensive specialist. Army Volleyball will forever be grateful for her investment in others and her selfless leadership.Â
