Softball Sweeps Holy Cross in Doubleheader

WORCESTER, MASS.- The Army West Point softball team (7-25, 3-5 PL) triumphed over Holy Cross (7-18, PL 0-5) decisively in both games of their Sunday doubleheader, winning 12-4 and 7-1.
GAME ONE
Army got off to a quick start in the bottom of the first. Senior Kayla Edwards hit her first homerun of the season, bringing herself and Parker Llantero home to give Army an early 2-0 lead.
Starting pitcher Amanda Eaglin kept Holy Cross scoreless through the first two innings, allowing only one hit.
In the top of the third, Army extended their lead to 4-0 as Ashton White singled to right field, bringing in two RBI.
Eaglin's strong pitching continued through the third inning, maintaining Army's momentum.
In the top of the fourth, Parker Llantero doubled to right center, bringing Sam Bocis home and capitalizing on a Holy Cross error to score an unearned run. Army led 7-0 going into the bottom of the fourth.
Despite Holy Cross narrowing the gap to 7-4, Army remained resilient. In the top of the fifth, Sam Bocis singled up the middle, bringing Julia Farris home to extend the lead.
Relief pitcher Breanna Izzo held firm in the bottom of the fifth, allowing no hits or runs.
In the top of the sixth, Kayla Edwards hit her second home run of the game, maintaining Army's momentum.
Following suit in the bottom of the sixth, Izzo pitched another scoreless and hitless inning for the Black Knights.
In the top of the seventh, Army continued to score. Edwards picked up another RBI, sending Mia Bonsignore home, while Ashton White added two more RBI, setting the score to 12-4.
Izzo prevented Holy Cross from scoring in the bottom of the seventh, securing a 12-4 victory for Army.
Edwards had a standout performance, batting five-for-five, hitting two home runs, and collecting five RBI.
Ashton White also performed well, tying her career best with four total RBI.
Izzo earned her second win as a pitcher.
GAME TWO
Following their dominant performance in the first game, Army aimed to continue their success in the second.
The first few innings featured a pitching duel between Army's Olivia Farrris and Holy Cross's Sophia Roncone.
Farris pitched superbly, not allowing any runs and giving up only one hit through five innings.
Roncone kept Army hitless and scoreless until the third inning, when Julia Farris singled to left center, bringing in Kayla Edwards for the first run of the game.
Both teams remained scoreless until the top of the sixth, when Lauren Little earned her first RBI of the day by scoring Samantha Sims.
Sam Bocis added an RBI with a bunt that allowed Lauren Little to score.
Later, Ashton White contributed two more RBI, followed by Kayla Edwards and Ashton White both capitalizing on a Holy Cross error to complete a six-run inning.
Holy Cross managed to score one run in the bottom of the sixth but failed to score again.
Army clinched the win and the series victory, with a final score of 7-1.
Ashton White led the team in RBI with two, while Sam Bocis had a solid performance, going two-for-four.
Olivia Farris secured her second win as a pitcher.
