April 13, 2024 | Men's Tennis
MANCHESTER, MA – Army West Point men's tennis (12-13, 4-1 Patriot League) suffered a 4-1 defeat to Boston University (18-7, 6-0 Patriot League) before taking down Lehigh (10-10, 3-3 Patriot League) this weekend from Manchester Athletic Club.
The Black Knights began the weekend taking on the Terriers of Boston University, with Army getting off to a quick start taking the doubles point. Samuel Haikal and Michael Rooney tabbed a comfortable 6-0 win on court three before Alan Ton and Marcus Sebastian got a break to claim a 7-5 win at flight two. However, the Terriers were able to take the first set in five of the six singles matches, before securing an eventual 4-1 victory over the Cadets.
Returning on Saturday against the Mountain Hawks, Army did not have the same fate on the doubles courts as only Haikal and Rooney were able to take their match. Trailing 1-0, Army got back into the match through Jake Huarte and Vishnu Bodavula, who picked up two-set victories on courts one and four, respectively. Army then fell on courts two and three, making it a 3-2 contest in favor of Lehigh with both flight five and six headed to a third set. With no margin for error, Sebastian had his strongest set of the weekend, claiming a 6-1 win to make it 3-3. All coming down to Daniel Choi on court six, the Army sophomore clutched up for the conference win, taking the third set by a score of 6-2 which improved the Black Knights to 4-1 in the Patriot League.
