Women’s Basketball Falls to Lehigh in Final Regular Season Game

WEST POINT, NY - The Army West Point women's basketball team (12-16, 9-9) concluded the 2024 regular season with a 64-51 loss to Lehigh (17-12, 10-9) at Christl Arena on Wednesday evening.
How It Unfolded
The Mountain Hawks outperformed the Black Knights, ending the game with a 46.2 field goal percentage compared to Army's 36.4. Lehigh's Ella Stemmer led with a game-high 17 points, showcasing her skill from beyond the arc.
The first quarter saw a close battle, with both teams struggling to find their rhythm early on. However, towards the end of the quarter, Lehigh surged ahead with seven unanswered points, while Army faced difficulties, finishing with a 33.3 field goal percentage.
Entering the second quarter trailing 18-11, Army continued to struggle, managing to score only four points in total by halftime. In contrast, Lehigh found their momentum, scoring 14 points and leaving Army with a challenging 32-17 deficit at the half.
The third quarter saw Army making efforts to bounce back, with a quick layup from Soleil Montrose. However, Lehigh responded swiftly, and both teams exchanged blows throughout the quarter. Despite a last-second three-pointer from Fiona Hastick, which allowed the Black Knights to outscore the Mountain Hawks 16-14 in the quarter, Army still trailed 46-33 going into the final quarter.
Lehigh maintained their 10+ point lead in the final quarter. Numerous fouls from both teams resulted in several trips to the free-throw line. Although Army's field goal percentage improved to 46.2, they were unable to mount a significant comeback and ultimately fell to Lehigh 64-51.
Camryn Tade led Army with 12 total points (5-8), marking the second-highest scoring night in the freshman's career.

Army finished the regular season in the sixth position in the Patriot League and will travel to Boston to face the third-seeded Boston Terriers in the Quarterfinal Round of the Patriot League tournament. The game is scheduled for a 6:10 PM start on Monday, March 11 and will be televised on ESPN+.
