Women’s Basketball Drops Heartbreaker in Quarterfinal vs. Boston

BOSTON, Mass. – The Army West Point women's basketball team, seeded No. 6 (12-17, 9-10 PL) fell to the Boston University Terriers (19-11-11-8), seeded No. 3 Monday night in the Patriot League Quarterfinal presented by PenFed Credit Union by a score of 64-62.
How It Happened
Boston's Caitlin Weimar, the Patriot League Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year scored a layup with 1.5 seconds left to put the Terriers up for good, 64-62 and advance to the Semifinal in the Patriot League Women's Basketball Championships. Weimar scored a game-high 27 points (10-17 shooting) and grabbed nine rebounds.
Army Freshman Fiona Hastick scored six of Army's first nine points, leading 9-8 halfway through the opening quarter. Weimar started her big game also, scoring three early baskets to pace the Terriers. Army would lead 17-12 after one after ending the quarter on a 9-3 scoring run, forcing six turnovers.
In the second, Army opened its biggest lead of the night, 11 points, but Boston ended the quarter on an 11-2 run as Army hung on to a two-point advantage at halftime, 32-30.
At the break, Army was paced by freshman Camryn Tade, who scored nine points, all in the second quarter.
Coming out of the locker room, Reese Ericson nailed a three, her second of the game, as Army led 35-32. Later in the quarter, Ericson was good again from three, her third as Army extended its lead, 42-38.
As the third ended, Hastick caught fire, scoring eight points in the final three minutes, including converting on a three-point play with a second to go. Army entered the fourth with a four-point lead, 50-46.
Army and BU battled back-and-forth in much of the final ten minutes as the Terriers grabbed a one-point lead following two made free throws by Weimar. With 1:56 to go, Fiona Hastick answered. The freshman sank a clutch three-pointer to again put Army up two, 62-60.
BU would tie the game on two free throws by Alex Giannaros with 47 seconds left, and an Army miss, BU would score on a Weimar layup with one second left to give the Terriers the win to advance to the Patriot League Semifinal.
Boston's Anastasiia Semenova added 14 points, behind Weimer's 27.
