Men's Hoops 2023-24 Season Comes to a Close In First Round of Patriot League Tournament
March 05, 2024 | Men's Basketball
WEST POINT, N.Y. – The 2023-24 Army West Point men's basketball season has come to a close after an 84-66 loss to Holy Cross in the first round of the Patriot League Tournament.
Despite the loss, the Black Knights had three guys in double figures. Ryan Curry, Josh Scovens, and Jaden Ellis all had 14 points, and Charlie Peterson had 10. TJ Small wasn't too far behind with nine.
The 14 sets a new career high for Ellis, breaking the one he set on Saturday at Loyola when he had 12. The Greensboro, N.C. native was an efficient 6-8 from the field and a perfect 2-2 from deep.
Scovens was awarded with his Patriot League Rookie of the Year trophy pregame and then he proceeded to tie for the team lead in points and assists and led the team in rebounds en route to the third double-double in his young career.
Curry shot 50 percent from the floor for his third straight game in double figures. In his last three games he's scored 56 points on 58.8 percent shooting from the field. He caps off a strong freshman season that saw him make the Patriot League All-Rookie Team.
Holy Cross grabbed the lead with 10:59 to go in the first half and never looked back. Powered by 28 points from Joe Octave, the Crusaders shot 63.2 percent from three and 52.9 percent from the field.
The strong shooting was just too much for the Black Knights to overcome and their season would end.
In year one of the Kevin Kuwik era the Black Knights won the star for the first time since 2020, beating Navy in an overtime thriller, had the Rookie of the Year in Josh Scovens, and finished eighth in the Patriot League despite being picked to finish in last place in the preseason poll.
