Gymnastics Edged at Navy in Star Meet

ANNAPOLIS, MD – Army West Point gymnastics stayed close, trailing by a score of 326.5-320.9, after winning parallel bars, but Navy's marks on high bar clinched the meet as the Mids eventually posted a 390.4-377.5 victory at Halsey Field House Saturday afternoon in the Star Series presented by USAA.

Navy led 192.45-186.9 after winning the first three events following Army's season high 63.6 on still rings in the latter. The Black Knights stayed close resulting in a strong showing on vault after holding the Mids to a slim 1.25-point advantage. Army outpointed its host on parallel bars, 64.3-63.15, placing three among the top five, to trail by 5.6 points heading into the final high bar event.
The Mids finished strong on high bar, taking the top four spots, to put the win in the books after outscoring Army in five of the six team events on the day.
The Black Knights were solid throughout the lineups with Maddox Pabellon the individual winner on pommel horse with a 13.7 and Johnathan Pinc tying Navy's Matthew Petros for medalist honors on vault with identical 14.5 scores.
Franco Peirano and Noah Duran were runner-up on floor exercise (13.35) and parallel bars (13.5), respectively, with Peirano also tying for third on vault (14.45). Jacob Brenner was fourth on parallel bars (13.15) and Blaze Kennedy was next with a 13.05. Kennedy also tied for third with Jaden Blank on still rings after posting12.85 scores. Tucker Blanchard turned in Army's top mark (12.55) to place fifth on high bar.
Army will take a week off before competing at the annual All-Academy Championships between Air Force, Army and Navy to be held in Frisco, Texas on Feb. 18.
