WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point women's basketball team (11-14, 8-7 PL) fell at home to the Bucknell Bison (10-16, 7-8 PL), 65-63. Army led by 11 at halftime but could not hang on for the home win. The Black Knights had a balanced scoring attack as Reese Ericson led the charge with 18 points, making four three-pointers, Fiona Hastick with 16 points and Camryn Tade with 10 points.
Army wore its pink uniforms and had a "pink" inspired theme game in support of breast cancer.
How It Happened
Army raced out to an early 11-4 lead, as Hastick scored eight of the first 11 points, connecting on two three-pointers. Ericson would get her scoring efforts started later in the opening quarter, knocking down a three to put the Black Knights ahead, 16-9. A Lauren Lithgow three in the quarter's final seconds gave Army an eight-point advantage going into the second quarter.
Army's hot shooting from deep continued, as Ericson and Lithgow were good again from three to put Army up 15 at one point in the quarter. In the first half, Army shot an impressive 9-13 from behind the arc (.69%). Army would take an 11-point lead into the break, 40-29.
Bucknell's Grace Sullivan kept the Bison in the game with 17 first-half points, doing most of her damage underneath the basket.
In the third, Army's hot shooting from the first half began to disappear only scoring nine points in the quarter paired with 1-5 shooting from three. Bucknell would use a 15-0 run to make the Army lead and work from the first half completely disappear and take the lead for the first time in the game under the four-minute mark in the quarter on an Ashley Sofilkanich layup. The Black Knights would close the quarter with a 6-0 run of their own to take a five-point lead into the final 10 minutes, 49-44.
Bucknell's Emma Theodorsson knocked down a three to cut Army's lead to two, 58-56 with under five minutes to go. The Bison recaptured the lead, 59-58 on a three-point play by Sofilkanich in which she was fouled by Ericson.
Trailing by two, 65-63 with six seconds to go, Army's Trinity Hardy drove to the basket and kicked it to the corner to an open Ericson, but the buzzer sounded, and the game was over.
Sullivan scored 17 points, Theodorsson, 11 and Sofilkanich had 10 to lead the Bucknell scoring efforts.
