Hastick’s Career Outing Powers Women’s Basketball Over Holy Cross and to First Place in Patriot League

WEST POINT, N.Y. -- The Army West Point women's basketball team (11-12, 8-5 PL) moved to a share of first place in the Patriot League standings with a 58-43 home win over Holy Cross (14-10, 8-5) on Saturday afternoon. Freshman Fiona Hastick led the way with a season-best 24 points, sinking a season-best four three-pointers.
How It Happened
Hastick got her season-best performance started right away knocking down a three for the game's first points. She was good again from three on the following possession to score a quick six points. Later in the quarter, the freshman was good again from long distance, her third three of the opening quarter, scoring 9 of Army's first 11 points. After one, Army lead 15-11.
In the second quarter, Army played lights out defense, holding Holy Cross to only four points in the entire quarter. It was the fewest points the Black Knights defense has allowed in a quarter all season. Army held Holy Cross to 2-17 shooting from the field (11.8%) and 0-7 from three-point distance. The stellar defense allowed Army to build a double-digit lead by halftime, 28-16 as Reese Ericson also splashed a three in the quarter. Hastick had 11 points at the half.
Over halfway through the third, Army built a 20-point lead. The Crusaders attempted to answer with some hot three-point shooting by Cara McCormack who knocked down a pair of threes and Bronagh Powers-Cassidy to pull within 11, 44-33 in what was an 11-2 run for Holy Cross. Army would close the quarter on a 5-0 run with buckets from Soleil Montrose and Hastick to head into the fourth up 16.
Cara McCormack scored a team-high 14 points for Holy Cross.
Hastick made her fourth three-pointer late in the fourth to put a dagger in the Crusaders, giving the Black Knights a 19-point lead, 56-37 with just under three minutes to play.

- For Hastick, she scored a career-high 24 points on 8-18 shooting, her first game eclipsing 20 points. Her four made threes were also a career-high and the first time she made three or more three-pointers. She is averaging 20.0 points per game in her last two games (16 points vs. BU, 2/14/24 and 24 points vs. Holy Cross, 2/17/24).
- Freshman Camryn Tade started today for the first time since December, playing a career-high 34 minutes, and scoring eight points. She grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.
- Army held Holy Cross to just 14.3% shooting from three (3-21), a major difference in the game.
- Army converted 14-18 from the free throw line.
- Army forced 15 turnovers and only surrendered four.
- Holy Cross did not lead once in the game.
