WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point men's basketball team (9-17, 5-8 PL) picked up its most complete win of the season in a 65-50 win over Boston U (10-16, 5-8) on Wednesday night in Christl Arena.
Four Black Knights finished with 12 or more points. Abe Johnson was a bully in the paint, finishing with 16, one shy of tying his career high. Josh Scovens continued his impressive rookie season with 15 points. Ryan Curry had 14 points in the most complete game of his career. TJ Small used a big first half to finish with 12 points.
BU opened the game by scoring right on the first possession. After that, the Black Knights ripped off the next 16 points to take a decisive 16-2 lead.
That 2-0 lead would be the only lead the Terriers would have and it only lasted 43 seconds.
BU would get back into the game with a 9-0 run to make it 26-21 Black Knights.
Army's suffocating defense held the Terriers to 32 percent shooting in the first half and 26.7 percent from deep, while the Black Knight offense was cooking, shooting 50 percent from the field and 60 percent from three. It all led to Army taking a 30-25 lead into the break
BU very quickly cut the Army lead to just one out of the break, but much like the first half. An explosive Army run followed. The Black Knights proceeded to rattle off a 14-2 run to up 44-31, led by Curry hitting three three pointers.
A balance between Johnson and Scovens late in the game sealed the Black Knights third consecutive win.
Curry finished with 14 points, six assists, five rebounds, one steal. Scovens had 15, four boards, three blocks, and a steal. On top of Johnson's 16 points, he had six rebounds, two assists, one block, and one steal.
Next up the Black Knights will look to make it four in a row with a road date against Holy Cross on Saturday at 2 pm.
