December 12, 2024 | Wrestling
BALTIMORE – One night before the Army-Navy Football Game, Army West Point Wrestling will compete in Baltimore against the Morgan State Bears.
Friday night's match at Hurt Gymnasium is set for 6:00 p.m. The dual will be streamed on Morgan State's streaming platform, and tickets are on sale.
The match serves as the conference match debut for Morgan State—the newest EIWA member. It is also the EIWA opener for Army in 2024-25.
Army is 3-1 in dual matches this season. The Black Knights took a 23-16 defeat to No. 2 Iowa in St. Charles, Mo. Friday night, but four Army wrestlers notched wins, including Dakota Morris, who came back from an 8-4 deficit to pin Kael Voinovich in the third period at 157 lbs.
The Black Knights are also coming off a second-place team finish at the Black Knight Invitational November 17, finishing behind only Penn State, who is currently ranked No. 1 nationally. Ethan Berginc won the championship at 133 lbs, while Charles Farmer (125 lbs) and Gunner Filipowicz (165 lbs)—both No. 2 seeds in their respective weight classes—fell in their respective finals to top-seeded wrestlers from Penn State.
