Heckel Jr. Named to Haskins Award Watch List

WEST POINT, N.Y. - Senior team captain John Heckel Jr. of Army West Point golf was recently named to the Fred Haskins Award, which is given to the nation's top collegiate golfer.Â
Heckel Jr. becomes the first Army player in program history to make the watch list for the Haskins Award.Â
Heckel Jr. currently ranks 89th nationally according the Clippd and was as high as 40th this season. He currently has a scoring average of 69.7 over his 10 rounds this fall. He has won the individual title at the Ryan T. Lee Memorial Collegiate and at the Commander-in-Chief's Cup. Heckel Jr. has put together eight rounds of even par or better this fall.Â
In addition to the stroke play wins, he was key in Army's Star victory this season against Navy at West Point.Â
About the Haskins Award
The Haskins Award is presented annually by the Haskins Foundation to honor the most outstanding collegiate golfer in the United States. The Haskins Award is named in memory of Fred Haskins, former golf teaching professional at the Country Club of Columbus (Georgia) who devoted his life to nurturing and mentoring amateur players.
