Hockey Picks Up 4-1 Win Over Bentley as Cataldo Earns Win in First Start

WEST POINT, NY - Army West Point hockey (2-3-0, 2-2-0 AHA) surged to a 4-1 win over Bentley (2-3-1, 1-1-0 AHA) on Saturday Afternoon at Tate Rink to split the series.
Army scored the final three goals of the contest as JJ Cataldo picked up his first career win in his first career start with a 31-save effort.
Brent Keefer continued his strong start with a three-point night including a power-play goal in the third period. Nik Hong recorded a goal and assist while both Andrew Gilbert and Dylan Wegner logged their first career assists. Jude Brower opened the scoring with his first career goal in his first appearance this season.
Army scored on just its second shot on target of the game after a slow start with Jude Brower firing in his first career goal on a layoff pass from Joey Baez. The team's played a penalty-free first twenty minutes with Bentley outshooting the Black Knights 9-5 as the game was 1-0 in Army's favor for the second consecutive night.
The Falcons once again came out strong in the second, eventually converting on their first power-play opportunity of the game as Sam Duerr knotted the game up with his second goal of the campaign. Cataldo was tested throughout the period but held Bentley in check with twelve saves in the frame.
Nik Hong gave Army back the lead with a goal from an impossible angle from behind the net and red line as it deflected in past Max Beckford in the Falcons' goal. Army took a lead into the third period for the first time this season.
Cataldo stood tall to weather the storm until its third goal, with Brent Keefer taking a pass from Mac Gadowsky and firing past Beckford on the power-play. It gave Army a two-goal cushion with just under nine minutes to play. The team's traded penalties which eventually saw the clock drain below 3:00 which prompted an empty net situation for Bentley.
Army eventually got possession in the neutral zone and Hong found Michael Sacco for the empty netter which brought the final scoreline to 4-1.
The Black Knights have split each of their first two conference matchups and today's win marked a season-high with four goals.
Army will return with a Thursday-Friday series at Canisius with puck drop set for 6:00 p.m. for both contests.
