Gymnasts Dominate Against Springfield

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point men's gymnastics team captured all six team events, along with claiming four of the six individual winners, in outscoring Springfield College, 382.3-367.2, for its third win of 2024 Saturday afternoon at Gross Sports Center.
Army's individual winners were Jaden Blank on still rings (12.85), Steve Manolakis, vault (14.5), Franco Peirano, floor exercise (13.55), and Maddox Pabellon on pommel horse (13.45). Peirano, Blank and Manolakis' scores were season highs.
Manolakis was also runner-up on floor (13.35) as was Peirano on vault (14.4). Also posting second-place finishes for the Black Knights (1-2) were Blaze Kennedy on still rings (12.6) and parallel bars (12.9), along with Zachary Perez on high bar (12.85).
Army set season highs in the team scoring on floor exercise (63.8) and vault (71.4) with the two closest events on pommel horse and high bar in nipping the Pride 61.05-60.65 in the former and 61.05-60.45 in the latter, respectively.
Army's team vault score was its highest since the scoring change was implemented in 2017.
The Black Knights held a slim 124.95-122.30 advantage after the first two events (floor and pommel horse) but increased its advantage to a comfortable 321.25-306.75 margin heading into the final high bar event.
Springfield's winners were Sam Kaplan and Owen Carney on parallel bars (13.1) and high bar (13.0), respectively.
