Women's Basketball Gets Big Win Over Boston U

West Point, NY – The Army West Point women's basketball team (7-10, 4-3 PL) collected their third conference win in a row as they took down the Boston University Terriers (12-6, 4-3 PL). Army out-rebounded the Terriers 45-28. Three different Black Knights scored in double figures. Freshman Kya Smith led the way with 20 points and nine rebounds. Trinity Hardy and Fiona Hastick each added ten points and combined for 12 rebounds.
How it Happened
Both teams took a couple of minutes to get settled in as Kya Smith scored the first bucket of the game with just over seven minutes to play in the first quarter. The teams would go back and forth through the first ten minutes as it saw four lead changes until Army could finish the quarter strong. Going on a small run, the Black Knights took a five-point lead into the second quarter. Kya Smith put up eight of Army's 22 first-quarter points. Reese Ericson and Trinity Hardy both put up five.
In a close second quarter, the teams traded buckets until the Terriers went on a 6-0 run. Boston tied the game up but would not see a lead for the rest of the first half. Army put up ten points to close out the half with Trinity Hardy and Kya Smith combing for nine of ten. The Black Knights put on a defense showing as they held Boston to 12 second-quarter points. Army took a two-point lead into halftime.
The third quarter was an exact continuation of the second as each team scored the same amount of points. Kya Smith, Reese Ericson, Fiona Hastick, and Camryn Tade each put up the points for Army. Freshman Camryn Tade was unstoppable on the boards, pulling down four third-quarter rebounds when Army needed them the most. The game would come down to the final ten minutes as the two teams were tied at the end of three quarters.
Freshman Fiona Hastick came alive for Army in the fourth quarter, scoring seven points, including a big three and a game-sealing basket at the end with time winding down. Army would walk off the court with the 61-57 victory. The freshman class combined for 18 of the 19 total points scored in the last ten minutes. They also accounted for 18 of the 22 second-half rebounds.
Up next for Army is a road trip to Lewisburg, PA where they will face the Bucknell Bison on January 27th, at 3:30 PM.
