Golf Finishes 7th at Ryan T. Lee Memorial Collegiate

BERLIN, Conn. - Led by John Heckel Jr., the Army West Point golf team finished seventh at the Ryan T. Lee Memorial Collegiate at Shuttle Meadow Country Club.
The Black Knights had a 2-under-par round as a team on Sunday, which was an improvement of 11 shots from the opening round. Army ended up 7-over for the tournament. Long Island University won the team title at 10-under after shooting a 14-under Sunday as a team. Columbia's DJ Francey earned the individual title with a pair of 67 rounds to finish 8-under par.
TOURNAMENT NOTES
• A great final round 5-under 66 from John Heckel Jr. placed him in a tie for third overall for the tournament.
• His 5-under 66 was tied for the low round of the weekend and included two eagles.
• Heckel Jr. eagled the par 5 seventh hole and then finished the round with an eagle on the 18th hole.
• Patrick Song, Drew Jeffords and Samuel Kim all shot a 1-over 72 on the final day.
• Song rebounded from a tough spot and recovered to even through his first nine with three birdies and then was 1-over on the final nine.
• Jeffords had another good front nine at 2-under with a pair of birdies.
• Kim ground out his 72, going 2-under in his final eight holes, including back-to-back birdies on 17 and 18 to close out.
Next up for the Black Knights is the annual Star Match with Navy on Oct. 5-6 at the Naval Academy Golf Course.
