Army Opens Conference Play With a Win Defeating Bucknell 2-1
September 16, 2023 | Men's Soccer
Lewisburg, PA – The Army West Point Black Knights opened up conference play with a 2-1 win over Bucknell Saturday night.
How it Happened
The Black Knights had to be strong defensively to start off as the Bisons tallied ten shots with four on goal in the first half. Goalkeeper Harrison Faulkner was sharp, stopping all four Bucknell scoring attempts.
While Army didn't have any shots on goal in the first half, they quickly adjusted coming out for the second, scoring just 30 seconds in. Senior captain D'Anthony Brown found the back of the net off a ball from freshmen Gage Lyons and Jubril Bamgbala, giving the Black Knights a 1-0 lead.
Exactly 20 minutes later in the 66th minute Cooper Warren scores in the exact same fashion as he did against UAlbany, netting a penalty kick and stretching the Army lead to two.
Bucknell would try to pull off a late comeback getting one goal back in the 76th minute from sophomore Zane Domsohn off a pass from Cade McGrath, but in the end, the Black Knights were able to hold strong and take home a win.
Coming off a strong start to conference play, head coach Brian Plotkin had this to say about the squad's performance: "What an away performance. So proud of the group. First league game and we looked tight in the first half. We talked about being as connected as we could be and just be who we are. I think you saw that especially in the second half. To get points on the road is always difficult and Bucknell was a great challenge tonight.
The Black Knight's upcoming match will be back at home at Malek Stadium next Saturday as they take on Holy Cross at 2 PM.
