Army Sweeps Bucknell in Patriot League Opener

LEWISBURG, PA. – The Army West Point volleyball team (4-6, 1-0 PL) defeated the Bucknell Bison (4-6, 0-1 PL) 3-0 in the Black Knights Patriot League opener. Senior Paige Fixemer led the Black Knights with 17 kills.
Match Recap
The Black Knights raced to a 3-0 lead in the first set with a kill by Julia Johnson, an attack error by Bucknell's Cameron Lloyd, and a service ace by Norah Shattan. Army would go on to take a 7-2 lead.
The Bison would come back to make it a 13-10 match after going on a 5-0 run, forcing an Army timeout. In the second half of the set, it would take a comeback for the Black Knights to win the first set. Junior Diana Ethridge had a big kill, making it a 14-11 match. The Bison took the lead after going on a 5-0 run, making it a 16-14 match.
Army fought back to retake the lead after to make it a 17-16 match with a monster kill by Allanah Cutler, and a pair of attack errors by Lloyd. Bucknell made it a 17-17 match with a kill by Cameron Lloyd. Scoring went back and forth between both teams when the Black Knights took a 22-18 lead with three kills by Fixemer. The Bison made it a two-point match with a kill by Bri Frazilus and an attack error by Fixemer.
Army would go on to win the first set by a score of 25-21 with an attack error by Bucknell's Allie Lopez. Paige Fixemer paced the Black Knights with five kills.
In the second set, both teams battled for the lead, when Army would go on to take a 5-3 lead after going on a 4-0 run. The Bison went on to retake the lead with a pair of kills by Tijana Kostic and an attack error by Alyssa Lukasik, making it a 6-5 match.
Scoring between both teams went back and forth when Bucknell took an 11-8 lead, forcing an Army timeout. Senior Alyssa Lukasik responded with a kill, making it an 11-8 match. The Bison would eventually go on to take a 21-16 lead.
It would be a comeback win for the Black Knights. Army went on a 7-0 run to make it a 23-21 match with a pair of kills by Fixemer, a service ace by senior Mackenzie Karnig, a pair of bad sets by Bucknell's Laura Caro, and attack errors by Sidney Shaffer, and Catherine Jamison. The Bison made it a 23-22 match with a service error by Karnig. Army would make it a 24-22 match with a huge kill by Paige Fixemer. The set was clinched by the Black Knights by a final score of 25-22 with Diana Ethridge setting up Fixemer for a set-clinching kill.
Army would take their momentum in the third set. The Black Knights took an early 2-0 lead with a kill by Mackenzie Lynch and a service ace by Norah Shattan. Bucknell responded knotting things up at 2-2 with a kill by Cameron Lloyd and Catherine Jamison. Both teams were battling to take the lead when Army went on a 3-0 run to make it a 9-6 match, forcing a Bucknell timeout. The Bison made it a two-point match with a service error by Johnson, making it a 9-7 match.
The Black Knights would eventually take a 15-10 lead when Bucknell threatened a comeback. The Bison went on a 5-0 run to tie everything up, making it a 15-15 match. Army retook the lead with a kill by Fixemer, giving the Black Knights a 16-15 lead. Bucknell responded, taking a 17-16 lead with a kill by Tijana Kostic and an attack error by Fixemer.
The Black Knights fought back to retake the lead, going on a 3-0 run with an attack error by Bri Frazilus, and a kill by Bray and Fixemer, making it a 19-17 match.
Bucknell stayed in the match, knotting everything up at 20-20. Army would take the lead with a service error by Laura Caro. Both teams batted to retake the lead when the Black Knights would take a 24-23 lead with a monster kill by Paige Fixemer. Army secured the match point with an attack error by Bucknell's Tijana Kostic, winning the set 25-23, securing the first conference win of the season.
